Re: I feel so much better!
I feel so bad for your friend. A lot of reception halls entices clients at first and then on the day of the event they do not go all the way out for the event. Only hope your friend did enjoy her wedding even though it was not what she paid for or were expecting. Most important thing is she got married.

Re: I feel so much better!
She was happy- she got what she expected -I just think she lied to me about what it was going to be
and that's where I am confused? I don't know why
I was expecting this kick a$$ wedding- it wasn't- it was normal

Why would you think your friend is lying? Is there some competition going on as to why you would suspect she is lying?

Re: I feel so much better!
Wow that's wierd of her to lie like that when she knows that you have some experience in this and you know what's going on. Why would she have a reason to show off to you if you're her BF?

I don't know- I haven't shared too many details with her about mine b/c I picked the date 11/05/05 told her and then she booked it
hence I didn't to keep mu mouth SHUT
the only reason I can think of is that her husbands fanily is very wealthy and she felt like she had to impress them- but why lie to me- it makes no sense

Re: I feel so much better!
If it was an upscale place, it's possible that they charged more for the name. But more expensive doesn't always mean better. I've been to really posh restaurants and haven't been impressed then go to a lesser-scale place and loved it. It all depends really. I don't know your friend, so I can't say if she was lying or not. But seriously, don't compare your wedding to hers. You are planning all the details and taking the care you need to make it 'your' day so it will be spectacular.

Re: I feel so much better!
Isn't that a great feeling?? I know alot of brides who lie about the amount they are spending on their wedding. Why?? I have no clue. I guess its those girls who feel that the more you spend on a wedding, the better the affair will be. $200k on a wedding IMHO, is absolutely INSANE.

Re: I feel so much better!
I also was going to say that sometimes more 'posh' places rest on their names or service or superior 'cusine' - but they aren't the 'AMAZING' experience that we expect.I also have seen so-called 'amazing' florists' flowers die within an hour!

Re: I feel so much better!
I think that most people assume that if the wedding cost $200K it's supposed to be this big huge incredible bash and most of the time it's just a regular affair. I believe most of us that are on a 'real' budget can make our wedding more spectacular because of our creativity. I'm sure your wedding will beautiful. I'm also glad your friend was happy with the wedding. It would be a shame to spend all that money and she was unhappy.

Re: I feel so much better!
Well, it might be the fact that it was in Philly that made it so expensive. If I were to have my wedding in Boston (where i'm originally from), I would have to spend way more to have the same things at my NY wedding. For example, hors derves are bought by the 100, or allotted per person. So you tell the hall either you want ot buy 600, or you can say 7 per person, 8 per person, etc...depending on what you want to spend. And bar is always extra, not included. So to have a 'normal' NY wedding somewhere else, it actually does cost more. I think becasue there are soooo many places to have weddings in NY, they have competitive pricing, and it works out for us. So she may not have actually lied, but had to spend a ton for a normal wedding.

Is she from NY? Has she ever been to a LI wedding? Maybe that is the reason you thought is was 'normal' and she was happy that she got what she wanted. I've been to a bunch of weddings out of state and the brides were always thrilled, but they also knew they would not be having a LI wedding.
