What should I do? I really dislike my new teaching job. Do I suck it up and just deal until June or can I get a new job in the DOE?

Has anyone done this before? What would be the procedure? TIA

I know of people who are excessed from high schools mid year because of enrollment changes (mainly, kids who graduate mid year or drop out) who are placed elsewhere. Are you low on the totem pole seniority wise and in a HS? If you are this might be a possibility.

Otherwise, your principal would have to release you for you to be able to take another DOE position in the same license area. Whether or not he/she will be willing to do this will be based on many things- like, if you leave will it cause a big problem?

If you have another license you may be able to leave without a release to work in the other area (i.e. I have a middle school license and a high school license).

I don't know, its SO hard to get a teaching job....will it look good to do that in mid year?

I was in a similar situation last year...as the year went on it got worse and worse and worse I believe I had a stomach ulcer at the end..BUT I just stuck it out..believe me I wanted to quit so badly but I stayed until June and then resigned in August.

It is extremely hard to find a job which is what I am doing right now.

I would definately stick it out to June if you ever want another teaching job. Also you need to give 30 days to resign so make sure you give it 30 days before school starts or else they can keep you.

if you work of doe look into it b/c our contract is changing where the principal doesn't have to give you up. if you find something else in the city you can go on your own. but ask your union rep for the specifics.

I thought with the new contract it's harder for you to transfer!

The new contract doesn't take effect until February - at least that is what our union rep told us.

Why would a principal want to keep you at a position that you just don't like. I am not a good fit for this dysfucntional school.

The new contract does start in February and it actually only addresses the seniority issue. Before this, senior teachers had the first crack at more desirable school districts. Leaving teachers like me who are in low positions stuck in horrible schools.

Well I know that it was hard to transfer before and it sounds like its going to be harder now...BUT you can atleast try for a transfer..I wish I had
