Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

I am having a hard time deciding. The Sand ceremony is nice and would be great for our outside wedding, but I am having a hard time finding the containers that one uses. I also like the unity candle too but FH is worried it may get blown out or something and the sand would be easier. What is everyone doing? If you decided on the sand ceremony, where did you find your containers?

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

Sort of want the unity candle, but I'm afraid the flames might blow out, so I think I'll do the sand ceremony.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

We did the candle and had our ceremony outside. The flame didn't burn out thankfully.

There are a few sand ceremony containers on ebay...

Here's the LINK

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

WE'RE DOING THE SAND CEREMONY. 1 BECAUSE IT'S JUST A BIT DIFFERENT. 2. BECAUSE WE LOVED IT. MY PRIEST HAS THIS BEAUTIFUL GLASS VASE TYPE THING A MA BOB THAT HAS WRITING ON IT ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT MARRIAGE WORDS. WE BOUGHT ONE FROM HIM AND ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS AGREE ON WHAT COLOR SANDS WE WILL PICK OUT AND WE ARE DONE.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

We're doing the unity candle bc FH wants it. I had never heard of the sand ceremony before I found it on LIW. Sounds like you want to do the latter. Look for the containers at craft stores, I think someone got theirs at Michael's and I'm sure AC Moore would have them.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

We're doing sand because it's on the beach, so I'm sure the unity candle would blow out with the wind. I found really cheap ones on both EBay and at Michaels - good luck!

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

We got 'em! We found them on ebay (thanks for the suggestion). They are different from the ones posted on here though. They are cylinder shaped. They will be engraved. The two smaller ones will have our names on it and the bigger one will say 'They are no longer two, but one'. Nice...

Which? the one in the picture on this thread or the ones I bought? They were going for between $30 to $60 (depending on which one) on ebay last we checked.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

My sister did a unity candle during her outdoor ceremony. This immediately meant I wasn't doing it. After reading about a sand ceremony here on LIW that is what we decided to go with. After lots and lots of searching, we are using these containers:

Edited to say that the single heart container will hold the individual colors of sand and is actually smaller than the dual hearts container.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

I'm afraid the Unity Candle will blow out during outdoor ceremony so it looks like Sand Ceremony for me. Both are equally beautiful and meaningful.

i have the same double heart design...i found them on eBay...the seller had a bunch of them. we are filling it with pink and blue colored sand to form a sort of purple.

here is he link to the seller's store on eBay. he sells both the below one and the one someone posted above that was a single heart.

Re: Unity Candle vs Sand Ceremony

you can also do a wine ceremony, which is what we are doing....it symoblizes the uniting of our familes...both mom's pour wine (mom 1 pours red wine and mom 2 pours white wine) into a chalice, and it mixes into a rose wine...the couple then drinks a sip of the wine...a lot of people do the unity candle, and we wanted something different :)

I spill everything on me...we are using white wine durring the blessing as is , but that is a really cool idea though.

The single heart bottles can be found at Michaels...or if someone wants 2 of them I am willing to sell the ones I have. FM me if interested.
