Past/Future Brides - Need help with morning of wedding...

Do you recommend getting ready at your house or at a hotel? The problem is that my parents are divorced and I would get ready at my father's house (the house I grew up in & still live in). But those 'getting ready' pics would be in his (and step-mom) bedroom, not my parent's bedroom.

The main reason I wanted to get ready at my house is for the outdoor pictures. My house is beautiful - so as long as it is sunny I could take pics by the pool and on my yard. But if it rains, that idea is shot.

House or hotel?

PS - I will also be a mad woman cleaning my house the week of my wedding (Daddy & sister are slobs!)

Kelly..I responded on '06 Board...why don't you put a hotel on hold as soon as possible and then you can decide

Re: Past/Future Brides - Need help with morning of wedding...

I'm getting ready at a hotel to make things simplier. Why don't you check out some hotels. Some of them have really nice places to take pictures. One of my main reasons for getting at a hotel is the space - there will be enough room for everyone, plus 2 hair people and a makeup artist. Would all those people work at your house?

As for the cleaning thing, if you can I would say hire someone to come in and clean everything!

Re: Past/Future Brides - Need help with morning of wedding...

I got ready at a hotel and it was really great. I didn't take pictures at the hotel, but if I'd planned on doing that, I would have still preferred a hotel. First, the space was a lot better for getting everyone ready and my makeup/hair stylist were able to set up their own areas. Second, personally I think the hotel would make for nicer pictures - less chance of the random soda bottle or something like that getting into the shot.

I actually booked the honeymoon suite of the hotel, which had a separate bedroom and a living area with 2 couches, etc. and it worked out really well. It was also not that expensive since I'd blocked rooms at the hotel and they gave me a discount. Hope this helps

How Important is the house to you? I am definatly getting dressed at my parents house because I want photos in the house I grew up in getting ready in my room ( which looks the same as when I moved to PA)on my wedding day.

I, too, have been deciding whether to get ready at our apartment in Manhattan or get ready at the hotel where we have our block...I just decided to go with the hotel...it just seems to be better for pictures, space, etc. Good luck with your choice!

I'm going with the hotel, that way we can have 'getting ready pictures/video' of both of us with our parents & bridesmaids/groomsmen

We got ready at the hotel in the bridal suite and had lunch back at the house. it worked out great.
I would just go to a hotel.

Re: Past/Future Brides - Need help with morning of wedding...

I got ready at a hotel - and I was extremely happy with how that went... We had a beautiful suite with a view of the statue of liberty and I just thought it was so romantic...

Plus, there was plenty of room, nothing to clean, and there were great places to take pictures outside as well.

Re: Past/Future Brides - Need help with morning of wedding...

I too felt it was super important for me to have pictures taken in the house in which I grew up. So despite all the shortcomings, we got ready there. I will add, though, that I had 5 BMs, which is about the # of women my house can hold. If your house is on the smallish size or you don't have a whole lot of room, I'd consider the hotel. BTW, there aren't too many shots that I LOVE inside my house, but there are numerous ones that I love that were taken outside. HTHs

In your situation, go for the house you grew up in. if for nothing else go there for the outdoor pics.
