FMIL Stiffed Me!
The last 3 years I've always made something for my FIL's on Turkey Day (they always have it at their house) & we split up our holidays, but are always there for either dinner or dessert. Well one year I made a pie, the next year I made sweet potato pie, then last year we actually bought pastries....Well this year she says, just bring wine, how many desserts do we really need?
I was kind of put off and took it personally like, 'don't even bother baking'--I don't know.
At my house everyone looks forward to my baking.......
Part of me says, you know what, its better off, less for me to have to do, worry about....
Would you be offended/take it personally?

Cindy, the same thing happened to me, b/c my FMIL is a kitchen hog! She told me not to bother bringing anything b/c she 'has it taken care of' But i'm bringing something anyway

Re: FMIL Stiffed Me!
I wouldn't take offense.....Maybe she just figured you two have enough to worry about with the wedding, that she doesn't want you to go through the trouble of cooking!!
And it's true, everyone usually brings dessert, and there's always too much!! We had way too many desserts last year at my FILs.

We actually get along pretty well...she is meticulous about her kitchen though....we actually joke around that she IS the mom on Raymond!

Re: FMIL Stiffed Me!
Aw, maybe she wants to limit the desserts this year to watch her figure for your wedding
I'm sure she didn't mean it to hurt you, or to say that she doesn't like your baking. It probably just came out wrong.

Re: FMIL Stiffed Me!
If you truly enjoy baking that much then make something anyway. No harm in that

Re: FMIL Stiffed Me!
Once year I went to his aunt's house and brought my famous noodle pudding..for those of you who I have shared this with, know how yummy it is..well, anyway, his aunt made her noodle pudding and they all ate hers and didn't eat mine. The woman had the nerve to give the tray back to me and say take it home.
uh...what!!!!!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!Don't feel bad, just bring wine and sit on her butt and don't help either. That's what I do now.

I'm in a similar situation. Last year, I volunteered to be in charge of dessert and she bought some anyway. FH said something to her and she hid it from me (but I already saw it, she just didn't know). This after I asked time and time again - what should I bring, what do you normally eat, and I told her what I decided on - so she knew I was bringing a lot of stuff. Still, there's some purchased. I was really hurt. And then someone else brought a second pumpkin pie - so they didn't really eat mine. I just ate both - what's the problem - no need to hurt anyone's feelings, just have some of each. Now, this year, I want to bring dessert again and I get hemming and hawing. I don't care - I'm bringing dessert anyway and lots of it. I know FH's family is not big on desserts. But in my family, dessert's like the main course and we have lots of traditions there and I refuse to let go of that. Me joining their family means they have to incorporate me and my traditions too. I try not to let it bother, but it still does bother me a bit.

If you guys usually get along, I wouldn't take offense to it. She probably just wants to make things easy on you. Enjoy the Holiday and don't worry about the pie. Buy the wine and relax!!!
