Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

The past few weddings that I have gone to over the past year or so have all had their wedding cememony at their reception hall. I'm starting to think that this is more convient? What made you decide to have your ceremony at the reception hall and not at a church or somthing like that? Trying to decide which is better, need opinions.

TIA

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

We decided to have ours at the hall because I'm Catholic and he's Jewish and neither of us is heavily religious. Also neither one of us planned on converting, so having the ceremony at the hall was a better option.

Also I didn't want to put our guests through the task of killing 2 or 3 hours between the ceremony and reception!! We're taking our pics beforehand so everyone can enjoy themselves without a break!! (That and there's more of a chance of everyone being at the ceremony as opposed to a few of the guests)

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

We're Jewish, so we could have the wedding anywhere, and the hall was easier for both us and our guests. But most of the weddings I've been to have had the ceremony at a Church, and I've never minded as a guest at all...

I'm Jewish and he's Catholic and neither are religious so having it at the hall was just a better option for us. Plus I really want an outdoor ceremony!

We had our ceremony at the hall because DH was married before. He is in the process of getting it annulled, but so far...a year and a half later...it's STILL not annulled! Ughrrrr...

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

We're Jewish, so it didn't matter from a religious standpoint. Also, DH has no real connections with any LI Synagogues, and I grew up in CT, so my 'home' is there. Therefore, we got married in the hall by a Rabbi I had a close relationship with.

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

We did it for several reasons:

1. religious things above
2. ours is in the winter and we didn't want people shuffling around
3. cost - churches are expensive!!!
4. cost - lower limo/transportation charges
5. my family and his family are always late - two locations and gauranteed nothing would run on time!!!

we are doing it for convenience, and we're not very religious, so neither of us really wanted to get married in a church.

Same here! It's so nice and convenient, and we want a civil ceremony, so it's perfect!

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

For us it was a pretty easy decision because we are interfaith, so a Church or Synagogue was not an option.

I have to say though… if we were both the same faith, we would have probably gotten married in a place of worship.

you and are in the same boat sister!

FH and I are both 'reformed' Catholics..lol...so we didn't want to have a church wedding, cause we thought it would be a bit hypocritical to be in the church if we aren't really religious. The hall gave us a flat rate for having the ceremony there, and it includes flowers.

In the end it's about the , because I found it more convenient and accomodating to just have the ceremony there, followed by the CH and reception...bang 'em all out at once!

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

we fell in love with the ceremony location at our hall. gorgeous -- absolutely gorgeous - and we could picture it there immediately.

all those other practical reasons factored in too, but really they are more of a benefit of our choice. i would have gone the church route if that was where i envisioned my wedding! Go with your gut.

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

We are doing this because we are non-religious and do not want to have it in a church.. My wedding will be in the Winter so we couldn't have it in any gardens or outdoor settings. Also, it eliminates traveling for the guests and eliminates a need for limos.

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

Well neither one of us are religious in anyway and if I had done it at a church it would be more so for the 'look'. It was definitely more convenient to have the ceremony and reception at the same place and they really did a nice job decorating the ceremony room so I was very happy with it.

Re: Brides who are having/had their wedding ceremony @ reception hall....

I'm Jewish and DH is not. The rabbi at the temple that I've belonged to my whole life won't marry an interfaith couple. I didn't want to get married at a temple I have no affiliation with so it made sense to get married at the hall. I also loved that at the Crecent, we could get married outside on the beach looking out at the water. I'm glad we didn't have to worry about going from one location to another.

Convenience and we're both not very religious. Personally I also like when I don't have to wait around in between the wedding and the reception.
