Thinking of buying one, have no idea where to begin..I'm so backwards lately with this newfangled technology
Ipod, not an ipod, how much storage space?

There are different types of I-Pods with different amount of space they can hold. It depends what you want it to do and when/how you will be using it.

I have the i-pod mini. It holds 1500 songs.
I don't know what I'll do without it.
