NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

Im getting to a point where everyone in this place is really pissing me off. I get in trouble from my boss today because I did something for another manager without consulting HER. Why?? Because she forgot to do it and now shes trying to get herself out of deep $hit. not only that.. I love the girls I work with.. Cant stand the people I work for. There is so many pros & cons to working here - so much so that it evens itself out. Its a hard decision for me to make & Im not sure if I should start updating my resume or not. I hate this whole industry & want to do something totally NOT finance related.

Do you think I should put my resume out or no?

Janie,

Honestly, try to stick it out for another 9 months...its really hard to start a new job. Lots of sacrifices and stress...you dont need that right now...try to stick it out.

I started a new job in September-9months before the wedding. I tis really not that bad. Try to find something by the end of January, if not I say stick it out. You will have way to much going on. If you are that miserable then update your resume tonight!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

Start updating your resume and start sending it out for the new year. You never know how it will turn out. Since you already have a job, it won't be so stressful and you'll have the flexibility to hold out until you find the perfect one for you. As fas as the wedding is concerned, you can always tell them if you are offered a position, most places will accomodate you, if they really want you to work for them, probably without pay though. Good luck!!!!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

I was in the same boat as you a month ago. I hated my job, I wish I would get sick everyday so I wouldn't have to go in. So I finally had enough and just put my resume out there just to see. Well, a wonderful job fell right in my lap, I interviewed and got the job on the spot. I couldn't be happier. I didn't realize how much being at a job you dislike really takes out of you. I'm a totally different person and I'm glad I made the jump. I was alittle iffy about considering all the wedding planning, but I;ll tell you my mood has taken a total 360 and I feel great. I have alot less stress now then I did before and I'm working a hell of alot harder. I just found something that makes me happy. So my point is, put your resume out there, who knows but I would rather put it out there and see what my options are then to stay miserible and keep asking myself 'what if I had looked for another job a few months ago'

Good luck...it will all fall into place, I'm a big believer in that now. :)

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

I have been waiting for after the wedding. I had the opportunity to move along a couple of months back and I decided it was better to have status quo than uproot and change.

Plus, as Beth says, you definitely want to take advantage of all your vacation time.

With the job I could have taken, I told them 'I'm getting married in March and I am taking off three weeks at my current job'... And they had some issues with that (they still offered the job to me and said they would 'work on it').

To me, I'd rather stick it out and be assured that I get the time my boss has promised (and I am entitled to) me....

Plus, there is a lot of wedding stuff you will have to do during the summer. You don't realize - all the little things add up. And in a new job, you need to always be awesome the first couple of months....

And now for the worst case scenerio - what if the new job doesn't allow you to log onto LIWEDDINGS!!!!!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

i have heard you more than once complain about how unhappy you are. and though it may be stressful to change - if you are not happy where you are that is MORE STRESS. even though you would go somewhere new and have to learn new stuff and meet new people - no one expects anything from you so no one is going to be breathing down your neck or relying on you for things like they would in your current job.

its a hard choice to make - but when you get to a point where your even thinking about changing jobs - i say go for it - i feel like its a subconscious telling you that there is something better for you out there.

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

I am in the same boat. Hate the people I work for, but I can basically do whatever I want here. My resume is out there, and I think that starting a new job now would be easier for me rather than starting a new job AND getting accustomed to married life at the same time. Also, if you're miserable there like I am here, wouldn't it be so much less stressful at a job that you like? Look, what's the worse thing that can happen? If you are offered a position, automatically tell the person that you require x number of weeks off around your wedding date. And possibly 1 or 2 days beforehand. If they say no, at least you don't have to take the job, and you stay at your current job until you find something.

I agree completely with this.
Coming from someone who is now changing jobs for the 3rd time this year (I am having no luck on LI and just may go back to the city) the stress does wear on you. I worked at horrible places where all I would do when I came home was complain about my job. It's no way to live.

Any job that wants you bad enough will work with you on the time off needed for your HM. I started one job a few years ago where I already had a vacation booked for 3 months later. They were fine with it.

And I hear you about finance!!! I don't want to do bookkeeping anymore!!! I'm going blind staring at numbers all day!!!!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

I didn't read the above posts, but coming from someone who worked in the staffing/HR world for a short time, I can tell you this:

1) WAIT until after the wedding to look for a new job - you need the time off, and any company you join will require you to accrue your days off, and with less than one year to go until your wedding, you will not have enough time to accrue the time off.

2) If you do decide to look, look in January - there is an increase of positions available out there once the year turns b/c after receiving bonuses, a lot of folks leave for other positions, and a lot open up.

while I agree with this, I think that there is no harm in sending your resume out now in hopes that something falls in your lap that's great. If the company really wants you, they will be ok with giving you time off for your wedding. I've been in this position.

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

Honestly there is nothing worse for you then to go into a job that you hate everyday. The stress affects your mind and eventually your health.
I would put your resume out there and see what type of response you get.
If you do find something you like, be upfront about the time off you will need for your wedding. Most places will be fine with it and if they are not, you can stay where you are.
Good luck!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

Honestly this is a tuff one. I know I was in your situation I absolutely loved my Job and was always being promoted. Then the B#tch from hell started working at my company and my boss asked me to work with her and some higher ups thought it would be good for me.

Long story short I wasn't happy and didn't want to go back to my old position because then I would be taking a step back.

Now I hate where I work I miss the people and even know I worked with the B#tch at least I had a good time with my friends there lunch etc, I laughed all day there. Now I am in a small place, with two girls in the office and I don't care for either of them.

Be careful for what you wish for!!!

Professional opinion? Put your resume out there and see what happens. If it's meant to be, something great will fall into your lap. If not, at least there will be a light at the end of the tunnel because you will have started your search. Let me know if I can help at all!

Re: NWR: Should I look for a new job after the holidays are over (POLL)

I recently read that people have a better chance of landing a job during the holidays bc most people take time off from job hunting during this time. On the flip side a lot of places do not interview bc people are away.

I think you should look and see what happens. If you get an offer you don't have to take it.
