Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
I just feel like I've been on a diet forever. I dieted even before I got engaged, and lost a lot of weight (30 lbs) and now I'm just trying to get the last 20 off before the wedding. It's my own goal and now one is forcing me to lose the weight. But I wish I could just be done with it so I can maintain and enjoy junk food sometimes. When I'm in diet mode, I do let myself enjoy the occasional treat, but I usually feel guilty, especially if I haven't lost in a while. I'm sort of at a plateau right now. Ahhhhhhh, just needed to vent. Anyone else feel the same way?

Well, I don't really believe in diets... if you do a 'diet' and lose weight, when you go off the diet you will probably gain it all back plus more. You have to change your lifestyle; the way you eat, exercise, etc. This is the only way to successfully lose and KEEP weight off.

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
Well, that's just it. I guess I'm afraid to go back to normal, for fear of gaining it all back. So in between South beach, I have been doing weight watchers points system, and I guess I can do that forever (it worked really well for maintaining the weight, and now I just went back on South beach to lost the remaining weight). It's not being careful that bothers me. It's that I feel guilty and that I shouldn't have pizza or sweets. Will that feeling go away when I reach my goal weight?

Oh, and I have been exercising and really enjoying the classes I'm taking. So I think I'm okay for maintaining the weight loss. It's just the guilt that I feel when I cheat. Will it ever feel like having a treat isn't chating?

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
You cant think of it as cheating. As long as you don't make a habit out of it, eating ice cream or potato chips every once in a while will not make a difference. Its an indulgence, not cheating.I was on WW for about a month and lost some weight. Basically I learned from them about portions. I think to keep the mentality that you learn from WW is great, you don't necessarily have to keep counting points.

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
Very true. I guess I just consider it cheating because I have't made much progress lately. I've maintained my weight for almost two years, and now I really want to start losing again.

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
I don 't really diet I j sut change the way I eat I don't really eat fast food like mcdonalds and things like that but if I feel like a cheeseburger I will make one on my forman grill. If I want pizza I will have a slice of pizza instead of two. I eat alot of chicken by choice I do eat red meat but not alot of it. I try my best to stay away from carbs but if I want pasta I will eat just not a heaping big bowl if I want bread with butter I will have some but not the entire loaf I jsut moderate my eating. I have done this once beofre and I lost 30 pounds in 3 months and I am going to start this again in January cuz I can't do it right now with all the holidays coming up and parties that I have.

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
I used to yo-yo when I dieted - then one day I just felt I had enough of dieting and began just changing my lifestyle - the craziest thing - I lost SO much weight, and when I told people how I did it, they didn't want to listen - they just wanted to hear a diet.... The most impt thing is to just live healthy - yeah, I have chips, french fries, and snacks, but it fits in with everything else I do - so I feel I'm just doing whats natural - what I crave I have a little of, when I'm hungry, I eat - I also love working out, which is natural for me as well... Good luck - but just take good care of yourself!

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
I forever feel like I'm starting diets. I've tried to change my lifestyle and just eat healthier without denying myself too much and sticking to normal portions, but it's hard to lose weight this way when you have a hard time fitting in workouts. And everytime I start a workout routine, I manage to get sick and the whole cycle just starts again. I'm constantly starting a new diet, a new lifestyle, a workout regime, but I have a hard time sticking to it. I'm really impressed that you've done South Beach for so long. I know that's the point - it's meant to be a lifestyle change, but I got tired of avoiding the carbs I love most.

Re: Anyone feel like they are FOREVER dieting?
When I was younger, yes. But as I've gotten older, I've become really sick of berrating myself for eating something 'bad.' I'm tired of making myself feel guilty for eating sweets or fun foods while others seem to enjoy what they eat. I'm not saying that I still don't watch, because I do. But now I'm careful because I'm more concerned about the quality of food that I eat, instead of the stupid annoying calories.
