Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!UPDATE Pg 2
I got 2 offers today out of 4 interviews that I went on....what are the odds???
And I still have about 6 more interviews scheduled for this week!!!
One is in the city and the other is about 20 minutes from my house. The city is willing to pay more and pays 100% for health insurance. The one by me covers 50% health insurance.
Both want to start me off on an hourly rate and then bring me up to salary. The city job said if I get another offer to let them know and they would make a counteroffer.
Both places want to know by tomorrow morning. Should I just pick one or keep going on interviews and tell them I need to wait?
I should say the salary difference right now is about $2500

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
The one in the city is a publishing firm, the one on LI is in manufacturing. It's a really hard toss up because while I miss working in the city, I know that it's a long (and expensive) commute.
Maybe it just boils down to where I see myself fitting in more.
The city job I would have my own office, the LI job I would be all over the place. I would also have to travel 4 Saturdays a year for auditing for the LI job.
Ugh decisions, decisions.....

Did the job in NYC mention anything like reimbursement for metrocard or for your monthly LIRR ticket or anything like that?

Not that I'm aware of!!! It's a small office, and I would probably be the only one who would need reimbursement.
I guess a lot of you ladies were right, though!!!
Had I never gone through the crap of being let go by my boss via IM, then I would not have this decision to make right now!!!

They still might do metro card reimbursement in a smaller office but not mention it until you're actually working there.
I know the circumstances surrounding this job search s uck, but it sounds like you're going to have a great new place of employment very soon!

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
Honestly when you boil it down to weekly/bi-monthly paychecks, $2500 is not a big difference, so I wouldn't let that play into your decision to much. I would say that convenience is a bigger factor than the money, but you really have to think about what you want. And if it's neither, then see if you can get an extension so you can go on the other interviews or take a gamble and turn them both down and keep looking. What field are you in Janna? Teacher?

WOW!!! 2 offers!! Thats great!! I would ask them to give you an extension until the end of the week. I think that if they want you that bad then they can hold the position PLUS, IMO, it shows your professionalism to the other companies that you have committed youself to for an interview. Its a tough decision. Having to work on the weekends would play a big role in my decision because I NEED my weekends in order to maintain some sanity. I dont think te 2500 would play that much into my decions because after they take out taxes and all that, its not all that much. GOOD LUCK!!! Let us know what you decide!!

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
First off congrats. Second I would recommend not rushing into a decision. Try to figure out which places offers more of a future for you. Which company can you see yourself working in? Where do you think you fit?
As for the company that told you that if you get another offer to tell them and that they would counter offer....all I can say is they are obviously willing to pay you additional money so if you are interested make sure you counter offer. In fact it is a good idea to always counter offer. Never except the first....everything is always negotiable!
Best of luck and lets us know what you decide!

I agree that you should go on the other interviews. You are in a GREAT position and you should use this opportunity to get yourself into the best position you can find (I'm sure you don't want to be doing another job search anytime soo, I know how much it *****!) You obviously have a lot to offer these companies if they are willing to make a counteroffer for you. Who knows what you may miss out on if you don't go to the interviews, you may find your dream job!!! Whatever you decide to do, best of luck!! Keep us posted...

No, Office Management / Bookkeeping
The city job is for an Accounting Manager, the LI job is for a Bookkeeper. Technically, it's the same thing.
I realized that the LI job said they would probably require me to work OT on occasion. So in that respect, I would still get home at 6:30 - 7pm.
Should also mention the city job is a small office and the LI office is mid-size to large. My experience has mainly been in small offices. Also FH says maybe the city job would counteroffer with more money, which means that $2500 gap will become larger.
I wish there was an easy way to do this!!

Don't laugh, but make a pro/con list. They work for me. Some pros might balance out a con and so forth. If you get it all out on paper to see it, it helps put things in perspective.

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
congrats!! That's really awesome. I agree that after taxes $2500/year is really not a huge difference...esp. like you mentioned with the expense of commuting..but if that job seems better overall I think you can easily negotiate with them. Heck, try negotiating with the LI company, too if that seems like a good fit. Now, the health insurance thing IS a big difference...that makes the money difference even higher as you won't be spending $$ from each paycheck on that. I also agree see if they will give you till the end of the week to make a decision. Just say something like you are already committed to a few more interviews but are still very interested.
Let us know what you decide

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
Congrats sweetie! I am so happy for you! I think that having 100% of your health insurance covered is a big factor. However I would go on the other interviews and let the city job know that you need some more time to decide. Whatever your decision, I am so happy for you!

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!!
Congrats Janna!!!
As for the decision, IMHO, once you calculate the cost of communting (both financial and time) the $2500 salary difference is eaten away and the actual salary might just be the same.
The question I have is, is that salary difference before or after the 50% contribution to your health insurance coverage? Also, since you are planning on getting married, does either place have a problem with giving you time off for the honeymoon? Will that time be with or without salary? Will either place offer health insurance to FH once you are married, or will you be getting insurance through FH after the wedding? (which then makes the health insurance inconsequential) Are there other benefits (life insurance, 401K etc) at either place? Also with regard to the health insurance, what company is it through? A 50% contribution to a company like Oxford or Blue Cross, would be a better benefit than 100% coverage from Vytra. (Vytra is having major problems right now).
Just some food for thought. Personally, I would ask whichever company you like better to hold off until Friday and finish up the interviews. Of course, that would be after getting answers to the above questions, if you don't already have them.
