Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!UPDATE Pg 2

I would call them too and say your were offered more money for the city but say like 5,000 more and maybe they will jump you up another 2,500.00

Say that you are really interested in the job opportunity but you are being offered more money that you really need time to think about it. They will either give you the money, time or screw them...

As for the city one it's too late but I think you should always high ball yourself. You should have said more money they will never find out.

As the job near your house if you could make your decision on Wednesday afternoon, that you want to make sure you make the right decision.

I think you should say higher numbers, theyre not going to ask you what the other position is.

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!UPDATE Pg 2

I couldn't exactly high ball myself. A lot of jobs nowadays ask for your salary requirements on your cover letter, so that's what I did. Therefore if I go asking for any number higher than that, it's going to look like I'm just greedy.

I would be happy if the city job even met me halfway, since it would be more than I've made in the past. (I put higher numbers on my cover letter)

The LI job I'm not crazy about the atmosphere of the office, even though it's local. It's one of those offices where everyone is practically on top of each other. And I hate that. In the city I would have my own office. Thus the reason I am leaning towards that. I feel more comfortable with the environment and the people there.

I think you have your answer right there. If you are questioning the atmosphere now, chances are you will not be happy there months from now. I would go with your instincts. From what you've written, you really want the NYC job. Go for it!

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!UPDATE Pg 2

I got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I start tomorrow. They came back and counteroffered at $4700 higher than the LI job. The LI job was not budging.

That and I would be working from 9:30 - 5, which means I can catch the LIRR at 8:15. When I called the LI place back, they wanted me to work a lot of OT, so they figured that would justify my being hourly.

Also the NYC job said that I would be paid while I am on my HM. The LI place could not guarantee that. Also the NYC job's health insurance is through United, which is the one insurance I had that I loved. So I am thankful for that!!

I have been itching to be back in the city, because working on LI has made me incredibly lazy. For some strange reason I always took better care of myself when I was working in the city. Maybe because of all the stairs I have to climb in the transit system!!

I am so freaking happy!!! Finally I can stop running around!! Now I have to go order the BM dresses before I forget!!!

Thanks ladies!!!

Congrats Janna!!!

As for the decision, IMHO, once you calculate the cost of communting (both financial and time) the $2500 salary difference is eaten away and the actual salary might just be the same.

The question I have is, is that salary difference before or after the 50% contribution to your health insurance coverage? Also, since you are planning on getting married, does either place have a problem with giving you time off for the honeymoon? Will that time be with or without salary? Will either place offer health insurance to FH once you are married, or will you be getting insurance through FH after the wedding? (which then makes the health insurance inconsequential) Are there other benefits (life insurance, 401K etc) at either place? Also with regard to the health insurance, what company is it through? A 50% contribution to a company like Oxford or Blue Cross, would be a better benefit than 100% coverage from Vytra. (Vytra is having major problems right now).

Just some food for thought. Personally, I would ask whichever company you like better to hold off until Friday and finish up the interviews. Of course, that would be after getting answers to the above questions, if you don't already have them.

Congratulations!! I think all you girls have made great suggestions! I would weigh out the pros and cons of each job (could I be any more detail oriented) and see which one looks better because it's easy to overlook the little details. Also I would go with your gut...what time of work environment will you be in and which manager did you hit it off with best?

GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Holy Crap!! I got 2 offers today!!UPDATE Pg 2

I start tomorrow at 9:30.

I'll be working on 57th and Broadway. It's 2 quick stops on the A train from Penn Station. I had timed it yesterday and it took about 7 minutes from Penn to 57th. Granted, I would have to pay for the Metrocard as well as the LIRR, but on nice days I would just walk it!!!

That and I would be home by 6:30. I would be willing to bet this would not be the case at the job on LI!!!
