GORGEOUS!!
I have a friend that is indian and she had an engagement party that was like a wedding as well.
There had to be at least 500 people in attendance and she changed clothes about THREE times.

thank you ladies!
we actually made the cp's ourselves
we bought cases of candles from www.paramold.com (a vendor who is now featuring our cp's on their website yay!!  ) and we bought petals from a combination of online places. We also alternated b/w candles and real roses on each table.

it's a little complicated than this, but here's the jist..
basically back in india b/c they had/still have mostly arranged marriages the engagement ceremony was the way in which the extended family would meet the groom/bride-to-be.
nowadays, they continue the tradition. There's a signing of papers by the dad's - basically the agreement says that the families have agreed to this wedding which is to take place on x day ect.
personally - i think it's a waste of money :) but hey -- it was fun and I was sooo happy with how everything turned out - so I can't complain too much!
