Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

platinum v. white gold

my ering is platinum, but I really like 2 bands, both are white gold.

1) can you wear platinum and white gold simultaneously (is there a big difference)

2) do you think either of these will match my ering?

Re: Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

Jessica, the pictures are really big and they aren't coming up on my screen but I wanted to tell you that I have a platinum e-ring and considered the white gold band, though I ultimately went with platinum (personal preference). They don't have to 'match' though.

Re: Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

You of course can do whatever you want. But a fact of white gold is that it is plated to be white. So it can start to turn a shade of yellow. I am actually wearing a wg ring now and next to my platinum e-ring it looks terrible.

The jeweler told us Jess that it can be done, but the 2 different metals rubbing against e/o isn't the greatest for some reason...

Re: Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

This is the never ending argeument here on LIW. Some people care. Some people dont. YES some people CAN tell the difference over time to the point where it annoys them and they have their rings dipped. I say go with what you love and can afford.

Personally, I prefer the platinum, it may lose its luster but never loses its color because its a pure white metal where white gold is not. I'd much rather have a ring buffed than have chemicals added but thats just me.

white gold and platinum look different next to each other. but you should get what you want. there are no rules.

if you really want platinum, ask the jeweler if they can make it in plat for you.

I see what you are saying. Honestly, my ering is my first piece of 'real' jewelry, so I am not very knowledgable of these things.

I guess ideally they should not compete or combat each other, even though I am not sure I will continue to wear my ering on a regular basis once I am married. There is a band that matches my ering, maybe I'll just go with that one since it's pretty and it's platinum....

thanks for your insights ladies. more are always welcomed and appreciated.

Re: Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

We had to choose white gold e-ring because we couldn't afford platinum - so I'm sure we'll have to go for white gold wedding band too...

Re: Wedding band question...do they have to 'match'

I am my mother's daughter but AGAIN I will say if its platinum that you want, try to find a dealer and not a retail jeweler. Granted our rings are plain bands but we got a great deal on platinum. It isnt always the diamonds that make the rings expensive.

I completely agree with this as I stare at the sapphire sitting in the middle of my ering! LOL

we actually went to the diamond district on the Bowery for my ering. we'll probably go back there again.

Thanks!
