I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

Hi Everyone!!
I just got engaged on December 19th I heard such great things from friends about this website so I just couldn't wait to try it! I'm going to start looking at reception halls and wanted to get some suggestions. Specifically, I'm looking for a place that holds only one wedding at a time. Right now I have appointments with:
North Ritz Club
Milleridge Inn
The Metropolitan
The Carltun
Carlyle on the Green
De Seversky Center

Any comments on any of these?? Any other suggestions?

I've also heard that you should negotiate with them...I'm horrible at those things! Do you try to negotiate the price per person or just get them to throw in some extras?

Any help would be great!!!
THANKS SO MUCH!

First of all congrats. The boards are wonderful. I dont know any halls that are 1 wedding at a time. But you can negotiate price an extras. Good luck

Congrats and welcome!! You can negotiate price and extras...good luck!! Of course, I love Floral Terrace since that's where I picked - one of the main reasons I loved them was we will be the only wedding.

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

I'd also recommend Flowerfield and Lands End. Both are one party only, and Lands End is right on the water, which is really nice.

Thatched Cottage does one at a time as well, but they are a little run down looking in my opinion. Might be worth checking out though.

of all the ones you have listed, I only went to Carlyle on the Green. It was nice, but I didn't think it was worth what they were asking for it - it was the most expensive place on my list.

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

Congratulations on your engagement!

Out of your list, the only two I looked at were Milleridge and the Carltun.

I loooved the Carltun. If I could have afforded it, I would have very heavily considered it.

My hall - Marina Del Rey in the Bronx - Can have 2 weddings at a time. However, the rooms are at complete opposite ends of the hall. If your concern is noise from another party, then that wouldn't be an issue there.

Good luck!

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

You are looking at alot of the places I looked at also. I chose the Royalton in Roslyn and would have to recommend it to you--it is fairly new--but beautiful-you have the whole mansion just for you and your wedding!!

I looked there - the food is good, and they're currently renovating.

My problem with it was that the large room has low ceilings, and the CH room and the ballroom are on 2 different floors - and I didn't see an elevator.

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

Welcome and Congrats!! The girls on here are the best. They will help you with everything and anything.
I have been to Flowerfields, Millerage, and Stewart Manor Country Club. All are beautiful and have different good things about them. Millerage you would be the only wedding in the one building. But they do have others in there other rooms. Flowerfields was my favorite one wedding place. Just a bit to far for my wedding but definitely check it out. Negotiate extras is the best advice I can give. Good Luck and Keep us up to date!!!!

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

Welcome and Congrats!!

I would check out Westbury Manor - its very pretty .... and the whole place is yours! I was so close to picking it, but then I fell in love with Watermill

Watermill has more than one wedding at a time ... but it does not affect you at all!!! (MY CH starts at 6:30 - and the other brides CH starts at 8:00) and then the whole floor is yours - the bridal suite, restrooms, and room .. so there is no noise and no interference with other people from diff parties

Good Luck on your hall search!!!

I had bad experiences with TC. I was very happy when I first met with Maryann and scheduled a tasting with them. ToniAnn called me the day of and cancelled saying they had no place to put us so we rescheduled (after waiting 4 hours for her to call us back) for the next week. When we went, they were rude again and we all got sick from the food. Just not a good overall experience with them. MaryAnn promised to call me back after the tasting and check in- she never did.

Re: I'm new - reception hall suggestions needed

Congratulations! One wedding at a time was a big thing for me too... i debated 'not caring' about it, but I just really want to be 'the only one'... that said...

North Ritz club was really nice, 1@time, they gave me an OK price, but it was still a little more than I wanted to spend...

Carlyle was nice, but WAY too much for me to even consider (also there cocktail hour is kinda broken up, not in one room) and I'm pretty sure they have a minimum requirement of 200. (I really wasn't impressed with the guys manner towards me either)

Stewart Manor Country Club was 1wedding, and they were really nice... it was definitely one of my higher up choices, but they had a max of 220/230 and i was afraid it would be too crowded for me, and I ultimately decided I wanted something on the beach, so I went with the Sands at Lido Beach.

Congrats and welcome! I am partial to North Ritz Club, but it really is a wonderful place. Milleridge Inn is also very nice. I looked their for my engaement dinner (they have so many rooms in the resaurant part) and I found there were a lot of little extra costs for things, for example cutting the cake. Not sure if this is the case with their weddings as well. Negotiating is really nerve racking. We got a bunch of extras thrown in at NRC for the price they gave as the base. Negtiating gets easier as you go to more places. The first place we went to FH and I (and even my dad who is a born negotiator) were timid at first, but it gets easier. And if you find you like a place, you can always try to get more out of them on a second visit. That's what I did!

Good LUck!
