Save the Date Question **with update

FH and I are not having an engagement party, but I still want to announce our engagement to our guests. I've heard that formal engagement announcements aren't popular anymore and some people think they're a little pretentious becuase you're sorta sending the hint that you want a gift..not my opinion but these are reactions I've heard. So basically I'd like to know what the etiquette is with STD's. I know most brides send them 7-9 months before their wedding, mostly for the OOT guests, but is it ok for me to send them now and have them serve as an informal engagement announcement? Is it too early??

Re: Save the Date Question

I sent them out with my thank you cards from the engagement party. So I don't think it is too early.

I say go for it!

Re: Save the Date Question

Well, considering your wedding is in the summer and close to Fourth of July, I would say you have a built in excuse for sending them out ealry. You want to make sure no one plans a vacation! I say go for it. I don't think it is too early.

Re: Save the Date Question

I already sent mine out, so I don't think it is too early

My mom really wanted to send out engagement announcements...I wasn't too sure since i had heard the same things you mentioned, but we went ahead with it and sent the announcements along with a save the date magnet. I have gotten a lot of compliments on them

Re: Save the Date Question

I definitely don't think it's too early. I'm working on mine right now and I'm hoping to get them out in the next month or so.

Re: Save the Date Question

I thinkit's too early, but then again, no matter what everyone says your going to do what you want anyway. I just hate to think that the STD gets lost, and they forget or what have you. I'm doing mine at the 7 month mark. Good luck!!

I sent mine out 18 months before our wedding (we did the magnet thing). Everyone loved knowing that far in advance... GO FOR IT

Re: Save the Date Question **with update

I don't have any websites, but I made mine. It was really easy. I bought business cards and FH designed them on the computer. Once printed, we laminated them (teacher supply store) and stuck magnets on the back which we bought at michaels.

Hey Jazzy-
IMO i think you send them out earlier since it IS a holiday weekend.

I think 8-12 months b4 will be good for u a holiday bride.

I am sending mine out by 5/06.
