Seeking some job related advice...
I hate my job... I know that everyone says that time and again, but it literally pains me in the morning to get in my car and drive there. I barely make it there by 9am because I wait until the last possible minute to leave my house.I don't want to post my profession (as people I work with are on this site), however if you FM me I will tell you.
I work a lot (currently about 60 - 70 hours per week) Monday through Saturday, and I still don't feel like I am measuring up to my co-workers. I am sick to my stomach because I spent 3 years of my life going to grad school (part time and at times full time) and have about $40K in loans only to get out and DESPISE what I do.
Additionally, there are additional certifications that I have to achieve, but to come home after working these hours without a break and study I really might just kill myself (we have to eat lunch and dinner at our desks and aren't allowed to go out).
I just feel like my job has made me such an unhappy person but I am afraid to leave it because I don't want to take a pay cut. DH keeps telling me to quit, but I think if I do that we will struggle financially.
Anyone else in the same boat? Or did anyone else QUIT and loved their new job? I need some GOOD stories!
Thanks for listening!!!

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
Life is WAY to short to spend 360 HOURS a week miserable. Pay cuts can hurt, but if you are that unhappy, you don't want it to start spilling over into other areas of your life.At least you realize what it is that you DON'T want to do. And your DH is supportive of you making a change.
Mark Twain once said 'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.'
Good luck!!

Do you hate your profession or your job. Just wondering if you stay in the same profession and change environments if it will help you. This will also allow you not to have to take a significant pay cut.

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I don't know what I was doing with my math up on my first post
Anyway, I too have recently decided to make a slight change in my career as well. I was exhausting all of my energy in a position that was more than ungratifying.
I wish you luck!!

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
My FH was miserable at his job too - didn't want to leave because we needed the money - and what happened? He got laid off!!!Remember - if they didn't need you, they would let you go in a heart beat - make yourself happy- life is way too short - trust me - he had to take a pay cut in a different job - fairly significant, but he is a lot happier, and we are doing our best to make ends meet - but it's better than him coming home miserable every day....

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I worked on Wall Street my first two years after college, and HATED it. I took a pay cut of half I was making to change fields. I don't always love where I work now, but my quality of life is so much better and I get to spend a lot more time with the people I love.

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I've been in your shoes. I left a job while closing on our first house. Talk about scary! I ended up taking a job for about 30% less and although I didn't stay there for long, in the long run I got a great job working with great people and can't believe the difference. I never thought I could be happy after being so miserable for so long. This is no way to live. I agree with your FH. Quit-it's not worth getting sick over.

I wouldn't say my situation is the same- but it's similar- I wake on sundays filled with dread that I will have to go back to work on mondayMy Boss is awful- I am looking for something new- I realy don't care if I have to take a small salary cut- I just need to be happy!

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
im not so fond of my industry or of my actual 'job' - and i work 12 hours a day straight through lunch. i get agida on sundays as well....however... i work with really great people ..
and that gets me through the hard stressful times..
it really depends on the environment..

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. I went through the same exact thing two months ago. I hated my job so much I would cry so much on Sunday nights and pray that i would get sick just so I can have a day off!!! Well, I was so stressed out and miserible that I ended up having some medical issues related to this that ended up with me in the hospital. B/C of all the stress, my body shut down on me, basically I had a mini-stroke!! At 29 years old, not good!! Even while in the hospital my job was calling me. I knew right then and there, I had enough, this job drove me to this and they are still stressing me out. I grabbed the NYT and started looking the next day. Luckily I found a great job within a week!! I love my new job. I stopped taking sleeping pills to sleep, I'm so much less stressed and I'm happier. Everyone has noticed. I think you need to get out of there before your body shuts down on you b/c of all the stress. Trust me, its not fun. I was willing to take a pay cut too, but this job actually offered me alot more, so that wasn't an issue for me, but I see it as money isn't everything and you need to do what truly will make you happy!! You need to look out for YOU!

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I hated my last job, mostly because I hated my boss.I was sick and depressed all the time. I was a miserable person.
This stress will affect your body in such negative ways. Some people get migraines or insomnia or ulcers. Is your job worth it? Money isn't everything.
You have to get out, start sending out your resume and going on interviews.
Good luck sweetie!

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
i agree, life is too short to have so much stress. I came from a job where it was only normal to work through your lunch and stay an extra two hours each day, it stressed me out, stressed my dh out, and even though we were newly married with a mortgage I stopped working and looked for another job. It took a little time to find the right one, but was is so worth it in the end. no overtime and more pleasant coworkers

Re: Seeking some job related advice...
I feel the same way. I hate my job and I hate my boss and supervisor. It's b/c I work for a huge corporation and everyone is so corporate here! I dread Monday's too and when I am off, I am so happy and stress-free. I know it is the job, b/c I like to work, I have never felt this way at any other job. I am willing to a slight pay cut (even though I really can't afford to) but I am so miserable here! I would start looking if I were you. You have to deal with that place everyday and you should be happy there. That is why I am looking. Good luck to you!
