Meeting with the Priest(updated)
Hey Ladies...Tomorrow night we are meeting with my priest and I am really nervous...what should we look forward to...What kind of questions do they ask...I am nervous b/c FH is methodist and I am catholic, so I am hoping they don't give us a hard time...also I am nervous b/c it's all souls day and I hope they don't have a mass around the same time I want my ceremony.**Well we met with him tonight and it worked out great, we had no problem with our date and time and he had no problems with Scott being methodist..Yeah!! One more thing to cross off the list!**

Re: Meeting with the Priest
I actually enjoyed meeting with the priest!! Don't miss be nervous! he was really nice and happy for us... He will ask a lot of Church related questions like where you were baptized, communion, confirmed, etc. etc. INfo. about your parents (religion, are they alive, etc.) Also, they will ask you and your fiance questions SEPARATELY.... i got so nervous when he asked Sean to leave the room, but it was fine...t hey ask things like 'Are you entering this marriage without being co-erced, have you been married before, will you raise the children in the faith' things like that... really not bad at all!We also discussed options for a date and time... what we wanted was available! If you're having it on All Souls Day, they may have an evening Mass, but double check...you might be fine.... Also, he told us about Pre-Cana options and gave us all the information we needed for that. Also gave us a booklet with readings, etc. to help us plan our Mass. My fiance is Catholic like me, so I don't know what he might ask you and your fiance since he's not Catholic...but I am sure it will be jsut fine! they are much more supportive of inter-faith marriages than you might think! Good luck!

Re: Meeting with the Priest
We are getting married the day after you. The priest did say to us that it was a good thing it wasn't the day before since it's a holy day.....I hope you don't run into any problems w/your date falling on a holy day.I was nervous when we met w/the priest, but it went fine. He just spoke to both of us together and then asked us questions separetely just to make sure we had the same views on marriage, catolichism, etc.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Meeting with the Priest
I had so much fun meeting with my Priest, he is so nice!!!One thing I was nervous about is my FH isn't catholic... and I am not a strict catholic so I really didn't care if we raised our children under that religion... and if we wanted to have kids
The priest said that if we said no were weren't going to have children then the church wouldn't marry us, and if we said no for raising them catholic, then they also wouldn't marry us...
My FH and I all answered correctly and now we are getting married at the church. AND WE ARE GOING TO CHUCH EVERY WEEK NOW!

Re: Meeting with the Priest
When we met with the preist he really didn't ask us anything. Just talked and explained things, FH is not Catholic and they had no problem with it. Good Luck - there is nothing to me nervous about!

how come you can't tell them that you booked the hall already. I'm just curious, I can't even remember if the priest even asked that.

Re: Meeting with the Priest
They get a little upset if you book the hall first for 2 reasons, mainly the first one:1. they consider the ceremony and Mass more improtant than the reception because it is a sacrament... booking the hall first sends them the message that the sacarament is not your primary concern
2. if you book the hall before the church and the church is already booked for another wedding or another type of service, you will not be able to get married there on the same date as your reception. they will feel bad, particularly if you are someone that is part of/involved in that parish, etc. but they will probably not be able to change things that are already booked. plus, it just causes conflict and feelings get hurt...mainly yours.

Re: Meeting with the Priest
Thanks ladies...I will keep you posted and let you know how it goes...I am not too worried about me booking my hall first b/c I called them back in March when I booked my hall and they told me it was too early to book the church, so we will see what happens
