NWR - someone please help me arrange this furniture -- UPDATED with pictures

I need serious help - we cannot figure out the best way to arrange the furniture in our livingroom. I was hoping that you ladies could help out? Our apartment isn't exactly like this (delete the 'Master Bedroom' and the 'dining area' is actually our guestroom/office), but this is the shape of our livingroom.

As you can see, it's long and narrow. We have a flat screen that must be in the room and a moveable fireplace that it will rest on. We have a rectangular dining table set up outside the kitchen that doesn't take up too much room. Other than that, we haven't bought any new furniture. Any ideas are appreciated

It's on it's way - just an idea so no worries if you don't like it. We'll just try again!

That's actually how I originally wanted to set up the couch - facing the long wall! The only problem I've been having is that our livingroom is about 13x20 -- our fireplace comes out 20' and the sofa I'm thinking of getting (unsure whether it will be a normal sofa or sectional) is 88' long and 43' deep, so I'm not sure that there will be enough room between the TV and the couch?

The idea we've been working with currently is to have a sectional on the long wall with a right arm chaise and a left arm couch (it would be huge). The TV is on the little wall between the patio and the 'dining area' - but I'm not sure the small wall makes the TV look too big. It's so confusing!

Re: NWR - someone please help me arrange this furniture before I go crazy

what kindof flooring do you have and do you like rugs? I would put aeither an 8x10 or 5x7 under your table near the kitchen to anchor it and have that as one area. Depending upon flow and ease for you, I would also get a low serving piece that can function as both a room divider, storage, and a place to put things down.

As for your sofa, I see your problem, you only have one solid wall. You could get a sofa with a built in shez (so like a sectional with one longer piece) to go against the long wall, but have the lounger part go against the low serving piece. You have a small wall between the kitchen and study. I would place the tv/fireplace there. I would get a coffee table for in front of the couch.

Under the window I would either get a long bench or seating to take advantage of the view/natural light and a small table near it to read or relax.

Thanks for the great ideas! Here is a picture of our apartment now (a.k.a. 'the land that IKEA built' ). We're replacing most of the furniture in here.

Where the TV and 2 chairs are now:

With this 8x11 rug underneath:

This coffee table:

On the small wall between the patio door and the French doors (with our new flat screen on top)

This buffet behind the left side of the sofa (with coordinating table and tan microsuede chairs):

The only problem with this arrangement is the the area in front of the window has a top-vent radiator across most of the front, which leaves little room for another seat. I was thinking of having a bunch of plants on nesting tables in front to fill out the space and hide the radiator a bit? We'd add a side table to the chaise-side corner of the sofa as well.

Re: NWR - someone please help me arrange this furniture -- UPDATED with pictures

ok to me the scroll work on the free floating fire place seams sort of out of place with all the modern furniture you chose. I would also try to match the wood color so it is a little more cohesive. If you notice the feet on the sofa and the side table both appear to be dark almost wenge in appearance but the fireplace looks like it is something else. So I would pick a more modern looking facade for the fireplace (if possible).

Would one of these fireplaces be better - more modern?

Yes They are both more modern looking with sleaker lines and darker in color to coordinate with the other pieces. I would pick the one that looks better to you, but both are really nice.
eta: I prefer the top one b/c it has a flat front and looks less likey to keep dust in all the crevaces, but that is just me. (But I like the color of the second one).

I love the Axis sofa - it's the most comfortable couch I've ever sat on!
