Question about gown preservation

I bought my wedding dress back in mid-November 2005 for the wedding in October 2006. Since it was a David's Bridal dress, I took it home that day and its in my closet as we speak.

Someone mentioned to me a few days ago at work that I really should have it preserved immediately (before alterations, etc) because it can yellow.

I didn't know this - is this true? My gown is ivory and would hate to have it discolor. I was going to have it preserved after the wedding and never thought about having to do this asap.

I was told by David's Bridal to keep it in my white bag and in my closet away from lots of sun light. I bought my dress In Jan 05 for a Sept 06 wedding. I last took it out in August 05 for a try on with all my bridesmaids and there was no change in color or any distortations. Hope this helps!
