NWR: Primary Grade teachers..
Any ideas for a good lesson for my next observation...preferably language arts or science - I teach kindergarten and I am totally out of ideas for my next observation. TIA!

Lanuguage arts... so much you can do here... I did a lesson sequencing for my observation. read a folktale and afterwords had the children sequence events in the sotry. (I hpotocopied pages out of the book in advance and had them laminated in advance.) Do one as a group, then I had them break into pairs and do some on their own.Science, I did a lesson on plants (although it was spring then...) Read a short non-fiction book on seeds and then they planted their own in a cup. Got rave reviews for that one and actually videotaped that lesson for my permanent certification test for Albany.
I have lots of ideas... FM if you need more....

Re: NWR: Primary Grade teachers..
when i subbed kindergarten alot, they loved playing pattern games with meI would find geometric shaped blocks an dlay it out on the rug and would try to figure out which one comes next
then they get to make their own
but i guess thats more math than LA or science
um science...how about mixing paint colors to creat new colors...red + blue = purple
they could guess 1st what color they think it will make
classifying objects would be good....ie furry things, wood things, white things etc classifying works for any grade

Do you teach in the city? If so, what about a shared reading of the big book 'The Snowy Day' by Ezra Jack Keats. You could have the kids make a connection by saying what they like to do in the snow (maybe make a experiance chart) or you can have them recall details from the story of what peter did in the snow.

Re: NWR: Primary Grade teachers..
I had my observation a month ago. I did sequencing too. It was to 'All that Corn'I motivated the students with corn products. Such as an ear of corn and other things with corn syrup.
They read the story and we retold and sequenced the story using our five fingers using key words..first, next..ect.
Then they worked on a techer created worksheet. retelling and sequencing in writing. The AP observed me and LOVED it!!
Let me know if you want I can email you the lesson. It was for first grade.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: NWR: Primary Grade teachers..
How about reading the book, Word Wizard. It is about a boy who uses magic to change words into other words. I use a big stock pot with magnetic letters and a wooden spoon to stir. Then I make a word- change a letter to make a new word- add a letter to make a new word, etc. Then I give the children bowls filled with alpha-bits cereal, spoons and we build sight words.
My supterintendent loved it!
