NWR...being were on the Pet subject

My Dh and I have a Pug, we want another puppy so Cha-Chi has a companion in the new house.

Any suggestions on a puppy we can get that doesn't shed, Cha-Chi sheds and I can't have another dog that does. Also we need one that would easily get along with another dog...any suggestions?

BTW...my puppy is VERY friendly so I need one just as friendly.

Re: NWR...being were on the Pet subject

Poodles, terriers, maltese, and bichon frises are four breeds that don't shed.

I think they're all loves, but of course every dog has its own personality. I figure that any new puppy is somewhat of a clean slate, you know? We had a poodle that didn't socialize, so he was afraid of other dogs. But now we've properly socialized Ginny and she has no problems with other dogs.

Re: NWR...being were on the Pet subject

a few dogs that dont shed off the top of my head, are yorkies, maltese, westys, bichon frise. Whatever you do please do not buy from a pet store, I am attaching a link to an extremely informative site of why not to buy from these pet stores.

Re: NWR...being were on the Pet subject

How about a Boston Terrier -they are a single coat dog, so they won't be shedding out coats for the different seasons. They are very social, they were actually bred to be ladies companions! Mine loves to play with other dogs, they have plenty of energy, but also love to cuddle.

Here's a picture of Bean (upclose) with his cousin Bo!

Well, all I keep hearing in my head when I see one is 'Step away from the chalupa!'

Seriously, I think they are a little high strung, but that should work with your pug. One of the dogs is going to become the alpha dog in the relationship

they can be moody - my Mom has one and she is like a cat...all she does is sleep, and she doesn't play at all. but, I'm sure other chi chi's are more playful - I think they are adorable.

Re: NWR...being were on the Pet subject

I do dog training and toy dog consultation as a hobby... so I truly have a lot of experience with MANY breeds.

There is NOTHING in this world like a *** MALTESE *** ! They really are the sweetest, most clownish, and intuitive dogs EVER. I am sure that a well-trained SOUL MALT would get along with your pug nicely. All of the maltese that I have 'met' get along well with other dogs and even cats. (See my photo below of my maltese Snow White standing over my CAT Phantom.)

Of course there will be differences in personality among breeds but in general what sets malts apart is their adaptability, silly ways of showing off to please you, gentle but playful nature, and obviously that they don't shed.

As I've said before, my maltese goes potty on command (I have witnesses hehe) and does over 40 tricks including hokey pokey, R from L paw, wave goodbye, European kiss, etc. They are SO trainable if socialized correctly.

FM me ASAP if you want to see my dog's hokey pokey video, or have a ? about any toy breed. Pics of my Snowy are below!!!

Re: NWR...being were on the Pet subject

Chiuahuas are great dogs! I used to breed them - owned about 20 in my life and they are playful and friendly. They get along well with other dogs, are tiny enough to take them out, they are amazing. Like I said on another post, they have a bad wrap because people (who dont own them) seem them on commercials and of course they use an UGLY one lol They really are great additions to any family and are kid friendly. Honestly, they are resilient too - not as fragile as they seem.
