Jack-n-Jill Cocktail shower-has anyone been to one?

I want a cocktail shower where my girlfriends can bring their DH's and where my FH's friends can bring their girlfriends/wives. has anyone been to something like this?

I went to one a few years ago, it was more of a Jack & Jill BBQ. She didn't open the presents in front of people.
I really liked it because it was fun, but FMIL thought it was tacky.

My cousin had one of these. It was girls only for the first 3 hours. We drank, ate and she opened the presents. Then all the guys came over around 4ish and we partied the rest of the night. It was a really fun time. It was the best of both worlds, because the older woman really want to see you open there presents.

I went to my cousins. In my opinion it was weird. The guysa and the girls weren't allowed to sit together. The women had to sit on the other side of the room from the guys. My cousin and her DH opened the presents together. He got some things too, like a tool box and that kind of stuff. The guys were supposed to play cards but never did. Its a cute idea but I don't know if the guys are really into it.

Two of my friends did jack and jill showers but the DH's did not like them. I think if you do it and don't open gifts and stuff it is okay (have a bbq or more of a party atmosphere), but the guys felt uncomfortable being there in front of everyone opening gifts. The one DH has already requested a 'girl-only' baby shower when the time comes.
