I am taking the plunge and getting my eyebrows done.
I've never done it before (not even a pluck) and I am a little worried about it honestly. I am afraid they may take too much off.Can someone recommend a good and CONSERVATIVE person to go to (NYC boroughs preferred). TIA!

Do you want someone who Tweezes, Waxes or Threads?

I am not sure that I care..as long as they don't do too much of either

Re: I am taking the plunge and getting my eyebrows done.
I suggest threading - it's clean and they don't go nuts - THEY LOVE FULL eyebrows. If you're nervous - I'll take you to my place that's not too far from where you work. I'm driving into work tomorrow - if you want to go there.
It's like $6 and it takes literally five minutes.

Re: I am taking the plunge and getting my eyebrows done.
I love Robin at Borja Color Studio on 57th at Park Ave.She only tweezes, so is very conservative. She does not take too much off at all. She's pricey, $45 each time, but well worth it.
I started going to her about 7 months ago and my eyebrows were uneven and thinner than I would have liked. She put me on a 'no waxing/plucking by myself' regimen, and I've been going to her every six weeks for shaping.
I love my eyebrows now.

Without a doubt! I waxed once and ran back to threading. This was my first eyebrow grooming method and the best. Plus. it a lot more hygienic than wax.

Oh yes! It completely brightens the face and gives a cleaner appearance, especially if you have stray hairs under the arch of the brow.
Sorry I can't suggest any places in NY.

Don't they lick the thread? I was always curious about threading but never got it done.

Not where I go. That would gross me out. They hold it between their fingers.
After the herpes/wax things I heard, I'm staying away.

Don't they lick the thread? I was always curious about threading but never got it done.
They hold one end of the thread in their mouth, but that end doesn't even come REMOTELY close to your skin.
This is it in a nutshell:
They take one long piece of thread, fold it to almost make a triangle shape, and then two sides of the thread come together, while pulling with their teeth the final end of the thread, and the two sides coming together serves almost like a tweezer, gets to each piece of hair at the root, and comes right off.
Threading is a lot more sanitary than wax, where you have people's skin boiling if they don't change the sticks often.
