FH went to the dentist and had a mouth guard made. It's this little plastic thing that he puts between his front teeth. He said that it helped a lot.

I have TMJ too, but I HATE the mouthguard. I end up taking it out in my sleep and throwing it across the room. I ended up getting medication from my ear, nose and throat doctor instead for when I get a flair up. Really, there isn't much they can do for you except give you a night guard, which stinks b/c it is so painful.

Re: NWR - Teeth Grinding...
I wear a nightguard, and have for almost 10 years. I'm actually on my second one becuase I ground through the first one. While it is annoying (I druel SO much) it is the only thing that lets me have a good night sleep. After a while you should get us to it. At least I do.ps: I have one of the hard plastic ones. I think they make softer ones now that have to be more comfortable.

YEP. If you do it you might have TMJ. Talk to your dentist. It can get really painful

Definitely go. 90% of the time grinding is due to stress - you may not 'feel' stressed, but subconsciously - you are.
It's a very simple and common event and your dentist will definitely help you.

I take a minute or so, as I am laying down to bed, to relax all the muscles in my face. I start with the shoulders, neck, jaw, etc.I find that I only grind on the nights that I skip this process.

Another thing is since you noticed it already, go get it checked out soon. I waited too long and did alot of damage to my teeth by grinding. The tops of my teeth are flat and I have some enamal that has been worn away.

a mouth guard and/or a muscle relaxer w/anti inflammatory before bed.that's what the doc I work for usually prescribes.

Does anyone find that they are grinding during the day too? I find myself doing it all the time for about 3 years now.

I do. I grind constantly. I never thought about it until the doctor asked me if I grind during the day. I was about to say no, until I grinded my teeth before I answered. I never realized it before, but I do.
