How far in advance did your book your hotel?

I'm having more issues with this hotel blocking thing than should be (as noted in a previous post).

I've finally reserved several rooms at a really nice hotel in Westchester for $139 / night. I thought this was reasonable and only 15 min from my reception site. The wedding is also around Columbus Day Weekend so I know rates aren't going to be rock bottom - plus there are a lot of wedding locations around and one of the nice Marriott Hotels was even booked for the weekend!

FH thinks its too early to block hotels and that we're not getting the best rates possible by blocking 8 months in advance. FMIL agreed and said that she thinks we could do better with the rates.

Do you think I'm being too proactive? How far in advance di d you block the hotels?

This planning stuff is starting to get to me.

I am hoping to block mine by the end of February and I'm getting married in November.

I'm getting married Sept 06 and blocked off the rooms in Aug 05.

We blocked ours 12 mos in advance.
