Repost: My ring is EFFED up

So a prong was a wee bit loose so I brought the ring to a trusted person in my town. (not the person who FI bought the ring from)

Now there is this purplish dirt looking substance at the corner of my ring, So I get it cleaned again and it IS STILL THERE.

It never was there b4.

So I brought it to another shop who says it has inclusions. I whip out the GIA thingy and there are no spots in that particular area.

***!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt that the ring could be switched b/c
A; this guy is someone my family has been going to
B: it literally took 60 ssecs
C: Radiants aren't the most popular shape around to have handy.

I AM SO SAD AND FURIOUS... And I can't get in touch with FI.

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

It could just be an inclusion that was recently knocked loose. When a stone is mapped and certed it's at the time it was viewed and graded, that can change.

If you're nervous, you can always take it to the Jewelry Judge to have it reappraised.

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

WHOA!!!!!!!!!! RED FLAGS! bring the ring to a GIA gemogologist and have him/her verify that the stone matches the GIA report.

60 seconds is not a long time, but this business is so slimy!! you never know!! good luck to you!

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

Are you sure that FH was given the right Stone with the GIA??? where ever he got it may have hidden the inclussion originally under a prong?!?! just a thought!

I would definitly take it somewhere and have them verify it!

Good luck!

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

I replied on 06 but wanted to reply here as well. Stones are GIA certified LOOSE, meaning unmounted. So the 'hidden prong' and 'knocked out of place' theories don't apply. An inclusion is permanent and does not move.

It could be that the inclusion wasn't visible before but is now visible because 1) the stone is clean 2) the prong was moved a bit 3) it's reflecting at an angle where you could see it 4) you're wearing the ring the 'opposite' way you did before...so something on the left top corner now could have been on the bottom right prior to taking it to the jeweler.

There are explanations for everything, try to remain calm...good luck!

If a stone is set in such a way the prong could hide the inclusion on the edge of the stone and she would have never seen it there until she had her ring fixed and perhaps the stone was not set the same way it was originally and the inclusion is no longer hidden by the prong...

I am pretty sure that inclusions don't APPEAR.. if it is not on the GIA cert it should NOT be on your stone, whether it is clean now or not... is it possible the stone was damaged while it was loose or reset by whomever? swapped or it never matched your GIA and what you are seeing was possibly covered by a prong? i dont know your shap or anything so i can not really say if it can be hidden by a prong...

Good luck

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

I would definately have it checked out. I read somewhere that they can change a ring in literally 10 seconds!!! Not to scare you, but it always seems shady if they have to take your ring out of your eyesight. Good Luck! I would definately have it reappraised just to make sure its the same one if it really appears that different.

Re: Repost: My ring is EFFED up

I am so sorry you are going through this.

This is my biggest fear. You can never trust a jeweler, they are sneaky and that are fast. I hope he didn't switch the stone

I am having some problems with my jeweler right now and my mom always goes to this guy, I really trusted this guy, now I lost all faith in Jewlers.
