Re: Parents 50th Wedding Annivarsary Gift
how about treating them to dinner somewhere they have always wanted to go? maybe a nice spot in NYC and then a show/matinee after?

Do they like Broadway Shows, would they be willing to travel by train(if this is too expensive would one of your siblings be willing to chip in with you)? Or do they need something replaced in their house that they haven't gotten around to doing.

Maybe make a scrap book of all pictures throughout their marriage... and then have a lot of the guests sign it that day, with memories of them as a couple. I think that woulb be VERY special to them!

Re: Parents 50th Wedding Annivarsary Gift
a few suggestions, all depends on what they like to do and their interests:maybe tickets to a nice show in the city-- they could take the train since they do not drive. would they like to see the symphony, ballet, opera, broadway musical, riverdance, etc... something of that nature?
otherwise maybe a concert to see someone famous they like or just to see some great solo singers (the staller center is local and has great musicians that play).
the only other thing i can think of is a really pretty vase or something like that to commemorate their anniversary (check out lenox, waterford, anything in the macy's china dept).
a REALLY good idea that I have actually done is.... we gave my grandparents (years ago when it was their 50th anniversary) a GREAT video (now they do DVD's) of our entire family's pics set to music....with the music it's just so pretty.
It started out with my grandparents when they were real young, and older and older until they met and then it was pics of them together. then it went to their chidren (so my mom and aunts) and then it went to their children (so me, sis, bro, and my cousins)...like 6-8 pics of each person, about five different songs throughout the whole video. then it could even go to their children if your fam has them---none of my cousins, or me and my siblings had kids yet so we just did a photo conclusion of group pics at the end and it said 'Happy 50th Anniversary' Love, and then all our names!
If you want info on the company that does it, although there are a ton of places that do, FM me and I'll let you know the one we used. The technology is probably so much better now-a-days. I'm really not sure how much it was but check it out--it couldn't have been that much, my family does not go overboard for gifts ever.
good luck, hope i was able to help!

Do they like to gamble? You can send them to Foxwoods or Atlantic City for the weekend or overnight. They have bus service and in the summer theres a boat that goes to Foxwood. My parents are in their late 60's and love to go there. You can even get them a gift certificate for dinner or a show while they stay there.

For my grandparents' 50th my mom did something similar, she had everyone send photos and she made a collage. At the center was their wedding photo, then pics of them when they were young, them with my dad & his bro as kids, cousins and then the grandkids. It came out so nice and is still hanging in my grandmother's home.
