checking up on vendors
I booked many of my vendors a year or so ago - DJ, video, florist, etc.Do you think I should call them and make sure they still have me for my date- under the pretense of asking 'is there anything you need from me at this point'? Or should I trust they are professionals and will be calling me when the time comes?

Re: checking up on vendors
If you are nervous about it, I would call under no pretense. I would say call them and say, just checking in, haven't been in touch since we booked and I want to make sure everything is the same and confirm the date. They have your money-I would call and visit my money...

Re: checking up on vendors
Generally, they'll call you. But if you want to check in and ask if there's anything you need to start thinking about (do not play lists, pictures/music for video) and ask when they need everything from you, that can't hurt.

Re: checking up on vendors
YES - definitely call - never 'trust' anyone to do their jobs correctly. It is always a good idea to check-in....

Re: checking up on vendors
I was in the same situation. I'm a little paranoid so I made follow ups to all my vendors. I didn't have any problems, they all had me down in the book but it was so far in advance that they just didn't need to talk to me at that point. Except the photo/video company. They called me to remind me of a payment that was due.

Re: checking up on vendors
Do yourself a favor and check in on some of them....If they are extremely popular vendors that you know people have/are using, then it might not be a big deal. But if they are someone who you don't hear alot about on LIWeddings, I would check in. I did that and ended up rectifiyng a situation. I'm so glad I took the step to check them out again!

Re: checking up on vendors
I trust that all of my vendors are professionals, but just for my own sanity I've been checking in on them to make sure we're all on the same page. I usually bring $$, so it's not like I'm just checking in but also taking care of my balance due.

Re: checking up on vendors
I just spoke with all my vendors last week. After the post about someone trying to cancel another bride's vendors I wanted to make sure all was A-ok.

Re: checking up on vendors
Hi:I am a party planner in the city (not for weddings, for a nightclub) and let me tell you, it is VERY important to check up on your vendors. Never assume anything, as things can inadvertantly go wrong. We are all human, mistakes can be made- and it never hurts to give a phone call.
Just say something like, 'hi, this is Jane Doe, we haven't spoke in quite some time, and I was just touching base with you on my wedding event/reception (whatever you want to say)'.
This is pretty normal, and they won't feel like you are 'checking up with them'. Either way, you are better safe than sorry.
I hope this helps---

I asked the same in another post and after the scare that posted about someone lurking and cancelling vendors on people I wrote a simple email to mine stating...
'Hi there, it's Rachelle, just checking in and saying Hi, seeing if there's anything you need from me at this time. If not, hope all is well... talk with you soon.'
I just wanted them to know I was still breathing and getting married!!
