Re: Looking for an apartment....
We just started looking on Craigslist, and I'm already getting frustrated. Reasonably priced apartements want only singles or are in questionable areas.I'd love to hear from others on this as well.

Re: Looking for an apartment....
Have you looked in the Mineola area? I don't know if you're looking in Nassau or not, but we rented there for years. There are a lot of people there who have apartments in their homes. Also, there are co-op buildings there that people sublet. The co-op board lets them. We used a realtor. Yes, we had to pay a fee, but it was worth it. We had great landlords and stayed there 3 years w/o a rent increase.

Re: Looking for an apartment....
We looked on craigslist & in the online long island pennysaver. We looked for a good 3 weeks (every weekend) b4 we found our current 2br apt (which we love). It's the top floor of a private house.I found many of the Queens apts. to be basement. My last apt. was bright & sunny & in a private house in Whitestone, but the basement & the kids upstairs would jump the stairs & you'd hear everything...
If you are looking for July/Aug, I'd start looking in May.

Re: Looking for an apartment....
I went with a realtor & so did friends of ours who also found an apartment in a house. We both have 2nd floor apartments 2 bedrooms in nassau. Ours is in bellmore & theirs is in levittown. I think the best way to go is craigslist and a realtor. We saw stuff that was listed in the newspaper & I wouldn't let my worst enemy rent it. The only downside to a realtor is you have to pay them 1 months rent as a fee.

That is what I am afraid of
