Repost...calling all teacher brides!!!!

Hey Ladies- I just started my master's program for education. I wasn't an education major in undergrad, so I'm still new at everything. I have to do a presentation on the Language Experience Approach (LEA) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for examples I could use, or ones that you've used in your classrooms. Any advice or websites, anything would be appreciated! TIA!!!

Re: Repost...calling all teacher brides!!!!

thanks!

i tried some lesson plan sites, but can't find an example for LEA. It's when you ask the child about an experience or book and then you write down what the student says. Then he or she reads back what you wrote, so they can learn to read. I mean I can make up an idea, but I was looking for a lesson with a particular book or something since we have to bring something with us to the presentation.

Thanks though!

Re: Repost...calling all teacher brides!!!!

Last week I read the mitten by Jan Brett, we created a bubble map of all the characters and then I had the kids dictate to me their favorite character using the high frequency words 'I, like, the'

Also on a winter theme you could read the Lois Ehlert book 'snowballs' and have the kids create a language experience chart about what they will need to make a snowfamily.

eg What will we need'

'We will need string' Said _____

'We will need buttons' Said ____

etc etc etc

HTH

Re: Repost...calling all teacher brides!!!!

i teach middle school, so i don't know if i can really help, but my friend teaches spanish and she often:

has the kids converse a typical conversation they might have, writes down (in spanish, of course) and the kids read what she has.

learning centers are HUGE now, and you could also try something were you tape yourself reading something, and give the kids the paper to follow along with, or tape the kids them selves speaking, write what they said, and have them play back the tape, while reading what they said.
