Looking for Reception Halls

Ok, so I finally got FH in gear and we agreed to start looking for a place for our reception. We have what I thought was a decent budget, not to big, but not that small either. I am completely sticker shocked. It looks like we could blow our entire budget on just the reception. So we basically had to increase our budget by $5000. I am still trying to find a reception hall for a price, but I can see this will be a difficult battle. How did you guys handle some of the prices. I heard you can try to get them to lower prices by taking things out, has anyone been able to do this?

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

My hall wouldn't allow us to take anything out.. but we switched Saturday for Friday night (that made it a lot lower)u also just have to negotiate a little with them.

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

IF YOU CAN BE FLEXIBLE (DAY, MONTH, TIME), YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A GOOD DEAL. I SAVED ALOT OF $$$ BY CHOOSING JANUARY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SATURDAY NIGHT WEDDING I WANTED. PLUS THE HALLS WANT TO BOOK THE LESS POPULAR MONTHS, SO THEY'RE MORE LIKELY TO THROW IN EXTRAS.

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

There is a thread where we all posted prices ... what is your price range per person?

and for negiating - you have to sit with the BM and just tell them nicely that you LOVE the place but cant afford it - and see if they will go down for you -some halls are easier than others.

Good LUCK!!!

heres the thread - i also bumped it for you!

I was thinking I could do this for $75.00, but it seems like it will be difficult to do it for $100. and it looks like we will have 150 guests.

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

You can get that amount for a sunday or friday evening. Also you cna consider a day wedding, which any hall should be able to meet that budget.

Good Luck.

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

I've just started looking too. Try the Lessing's facilities- they seem to have great prices. Smithtown Landing was advertising 75pp including tak and grat. They do a very nice wedding, my best friend got married there last summer.

I've also gotten good prices at Fox Hollow, Chateau La Mer and the Venetian Yacht Club (lower prices right now cause there in the middle of a renovation).

Good Luck and Congrats on your engagement!

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

some months are less expensive than others.. I originally wanted a May wedding, but I chose the very end of April bc it was $15.00 less.. Also, if you have a day wedding, it will be less and you can guarantee less people as well.. I know that May through October tend to be more expensive..

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

Hey, I booked The Inn at East Wind...when FH and I walked in, we thought why bother looking, its going to be too expensive...Whatever day is the cheapest, is good for me.
Sat afternoon $85 pp ++, we worked them down to $70pp ++
They also have another building at the East Wind called Country Gardens. They're about $60++ I think. Nice place...

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

I was able to negotiate with East Wind- they were very accomodating. You just have to try and put yourself out there- I mean, what's the worst that can happen??

Good Luck and check out East Wind- they have a lot of different options for your wedding reception

Re: Looking for Reception Halls

You can call places before you go and ask if they allow to take things out. I know my mom wanted to make our cake, we saw the ones leonards had and my mom was set on making it so they gave us an extra during the cocktail hour in lieu of the cake.
