Best role for Fiance's son.

My FI son is 5 years old (I love him to death!) and lives with us. We want him to be very involved with the wedding and were thinking about making him a 'jr. groomsman' and having him escort my niece (she's 9) down the aisle and having him carry the rings attached to a celtic marriage circle (it's a metal circle with an inscription on it and ribbons attached to it for the rings) cause we are not having a flower girl or a ring bearer (we don't know any kids that little). Do you think that's asking to much of him to do? We told him and he's very excited about the wedding and the fact we are letting him be a part of it.
Thanks ladies!

Re: Best role for Fiance's son.

See how he does with the wedding plans - also try having him act the part out in your home to get practice. I think it's a great idea for him to be this involved, but all kids get timid and frightful when they see a church full of people, and then with the cameras on him, you want to make sure he's prepared for that type of audience!

Re: Best role for Fiance's son.

It's a hit or miss with kids that age.

Just be ready to have a backup plan i.e. he does not want to do it.

We have two 5-year old kids in the wedding. FH's niece (FG) and BM's son (RB).

We know that it is possible that they get shy and don't want to do it at the last minute. We will go on either without the flower girl or if RB cannot do it, we are giving the ring to BM (his dad). We have informed the reverend that it is a possibility so we will just tell him about the ring if that happens.

Re: Best role for Fiance's son.

I saw on Oprah that when Garth Brooks and what's-her-name got married, they included an oath for their kids, since they were as much involved in this union as anyone. If you want, you can add a symbolic oath with you and his son. Just an idea...
