I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
Has anyone tried that? How did it turn out? I can see some potential problems but it might just be great. I was wondering if anyone had an experiences they could share.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
the Crescent Beach Club lets you get married right on the beach and if there are concerns on weather (rain/wind/etc), you can get married inside overlooking the beach.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
I would recommend a place that has beach/water access but also has some sort of a backup location such as:
Gurneys Crescent Atlantica Chateau La Mer Venetian Yacht Club Lands End Sunken Meadow Park (Lessing's runs this one I think)

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
We were gonna do that, but after actually seeing what everything would cost and the hassle of weather concerns, we decided to just get married at the Crescent Beach Club, so in case it rains, we have the option of inside also. FM me if you haev any questions

I had my ceremony at the Fire Island Lighthouse. You are married on the terrace, not the actual beach (although the ceremony would overlook the Great South Bay). In case of bad weather, the ceremony could be moved to the keeper's quarters.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
i'm getting married on the beach at Gurneys. In case of rain, there is an inside location to have the ceremony. Gurneys only does one wedding per day, which is nice for this reason. I've heard various people who have gotten married on the beach and they've all said it was great and gorgeous!
*My only suggestion, which someone told me, was about the wedding dress. Obviously if you're getting married on the beach... long trains might not be a good thing. Especially those with beading because then the beads pick up the sand along the way. Just thought i'd mention it.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
I hadn't really thought about the dress. Not my department. But that is a good point. Using one of those places with a dual venue makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion. Gurney's sounds nice. Is it expensive? I guess I'll have to call and see what they offer.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
if you haven't yet seen The Crescent Beach Club, I highly recommend you go check it out. It's been my dream place to have my wedding since before I knew my FH! You can get married on the beach, or move it inside. AMAZING view... you feel like you're on a cruise! And it's not too far out on LI for OOT guests. (It's in Bayville)

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
I went to a wedding on the beach on the North Shore, near Smithtown somewhere. It was a beautiful day, but honestly, the vows and everything that was said got compeltely drowned out by the sound of the waves and the wind. No one heard a thing.....you might want to make sure you can have some sort of portable sound system or forget it altogether.

My brother got married at Gurney's on the beach and it was gorgeous. Here's a picture of the set up I finally found!!

Hmmm, I hadn't really thought about that either. Having it in that public a place leaves you a little vunerable to crashers and weird on-lookers.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
We are renting the pavillion at Orient Beach State Park. It comes equipped with rain guards in case of bad weather. It has it's own electric supply and it's right on the water, but has enough trees that most of the reception area is shaded. If it does rain, it will be tight getting all our guests under the pavillion, but I am just praying and hoping the gods will be merciful and shine upon me that day, lol!

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
lucky you! my dream wedding is at sunset on the beach in the caribbean. i would wear a simple full length sun dress (think sarah michelle gellar on her wedding day) and FH wearing linen pants and a white button down. very simple flowers in my hair, white rose petals all over and tiki torches....but we're Catholic. and for us to be recognized in the Church, we have to get married IN a Church.
oh well, a $40k wedding is still good!
good luck to you...

Although I didn't realize it at the time, there were several people walking around the lighthouse grounds while our ceremony was going on. A couple of my guests told me that the people were respectful and just looked on as the ceremony took place.

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
I'm getting married on bayville beach, it is the same beach that the crescent beach club is on, but on a different block. We are having it on the beach by my aunt's house. We are having and archway, chairs and the works. We hired a violin, harpist and even got a audio set so everyone can hear us. It is a lot of work, but i think it will be worth it. i think it is going to be gorgeous..
FM me for more info, i'm glad to help. And, if you want to come and see it on our wedding day, let me know. It will give you plenty of ideas!

Re: I'm thinking about a wedding on the beach
I am having a beach wedding; however, I am not getting married on the actual beach. We picked Chateau La Mer because it is gorgeous and located on the Great South Bay. That gives me the opportunity to wear a really fancy dress and the option of having the wedding inside in case of bad weather.
My favorite place for a beach wedding is Atlantica, but they do not let you get married during the summer months as they cater more to rich tourists. Gurneys might be good. (Not sure if I spelled that right.)
I liked the Venetian Yacht Club, but felt the gold decor was overkill. I also liked Crescent Beach Club, but when you go there and see how close the neighbors' houses are, you kind of cringe. The neighbor's dog ran right through there when we went to visit. I do not want someone's dog on my wedding gown!! Also, it was a little too modern looking for us. We wanted something with more of a gold coast feel.
We are doing a beach theme even though we will not really be on the sand. Afterall, Long Island is an island.
Good luck!
