How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
Hi everyone?! I just got engaged last month and have a November 2007 wedding planned. I hear different opinions from different people but I wanted to get a better idea of when is the right time to start looking at Bridal gowns? Thanks!

I went 13 months before my wedding date and my dress came in 6 weeks later.

Really?! That's impressive...one of my friend is getting married next month and said that it took almost a year for her dress to come in!

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
I'm not going to start looking until a year before my wedding. I'm just worried that if I buy a dress now, I'll find something that I like better later on. If you're not worried about changing your mind then you should be okay to start right away.

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
I'm getting married Sept. 06 and I started looking for dresses as soon as I got engaged (Feb. 05) and ordered the dress April 05. My suggestion, once you find your dress STOP LOOKING!! Too many girls here keep trying on dresses after they order and the feel they ordered the wrong dress.

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
well, i was too anxious. we decided to just go 'look' and i ended up putting my downpayment on mine that day. but, mine was in stock in the color, size, everything. PERFECT! So, I 'got' my dress about 6 months before the wedding.

I am getting married a month after you and I think I will go this December. However, since my mom is in NC and is coming down in June for our e-party I may go 'browsing' then.

I totally agree about the stop looking thing after you order your dress. I had myself convinced I hated my dress, but now I love it again. The moral of my story is that while you can start looking early, take some time before you acutally place the order on your dress. Even if you think you found the one after trying on five dresses, go look at some more. I ordered my dress in Oct. 05 because I feel in love with it but I probably shoud've used the extra three months of looking and if it was still the one I could've gone back and ordered it later. They dont get rid of dresses that quickly. Last week I went to the salon and there was a girl trying on the dress I ordered in Oct. Oh and have fun looking for dresses, IMO best experience.

I don't think it's ever too early, but definitely take your time and have FUN - even if you think you found, 'the one' just make sure you've really tried on a variety of styles - I wound up with a style I didn't think I would like. My dress will take 10 months to come in - it's expected in May.

IMO, yes. My dress only took 2 months to come in. most dresses don't even take a year to come in.

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
I started looking in October/November, took time off at he holidays - ordered my gown in January, and am getting married in September... Does that help at all?You want to leave yourself enough time to find something without stress (I waited a little too long), but you don't want so much time that you change your mind or the dress is discontinued. Maybe start looking late summer...but hold off on ordering for a few months if you find something right away...just to be certain.

The length of time it takes to come in can depend on the designer and the shop you order from. Like your friend, my dress is taking a year to come in. You don't want to look too late and then be closed out of anything. For me, it was the sooner the better. But if you're somone who's going to change your mind or go through some major weight loss/gain; then I would wait awhile before I started shopping. Tho it's never to early to start getting an idea by looking in magazines and 'playing'!!

So true. I bought my dress in Feb 05 and didn't look at another gown. If you buy early, be sure it is what you want.

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
Congrats!!!I am getting married May 07 & was not going to look until the summer as well, but when I called a few places they actually told me on the phone to come in sooner. I guess I would rather not risk it and have it sooner then later. I agree with the STOP LOOKING part once you find it because you can drive yourself nuts I am sure.
I am also afraid because I am very petite with big boobs and a bubble butt, so alterations is going to be fun

Re: How soon is too soon to go dress shopping?
It depends. You if are going to buy from a designer that will take up to a year, go this fall. If it takes less I would go next spring.
