NWR: Please tell me your dog has gone thru this too

Yesterday Luca went for his annual shots. Well today he is AWFUL!! He hasnt gotten out of bed more than 2x. Tonite he is lathargic and listless. He is very sleepy eyed and has NO energy (remember, he is an Italian Greyhound, they NEVER slow down). He hasnt eaten today and cries when i pick him up.

I called the vet and they claim this is normal but he wasnt like this last year or the year before. I was crying bc im so scared!!!!

Has anyone elses dog reacted this way??

when my dog was little, after one of his shots he was so sore he wouldn't sit or lay down, he cried the whole night, i was hysterical, up with him all night. i brought him in the next day bc I was so upset, and the vet said that sometimes this happens, but it wears off. anytime my dog gets a shot he pretty much sleeps the whole day......i hope your dog feels better!!!!

my puppy was the same way - the first time he got his shots we came home and he started vomiting. he was tired and dry heaving.

Now he gets a shot of benadryl before the other shots - he was fine afterwards!

He has to go for his yearly shots next week - so i will ask for the benadryl again.

He'll be OK!!!

Did he get is Rabies shot? If so my pup was so sick for a day afterwards

My puppy when he got his shots cried and was very sleepy.

Well, I have cats but mine ALWAYS go through this. Mazi had his shots 3 weeks ago and he didn't get out of bed the next day. PLEASE give Luca a hug for me!! You know I love him!!

Dakota is going for her shots next week, but a few times (not every time) she was lethargic for a day or so...she didn't eat & didn't want to play. Don't worry!!!

Yes, I think they do go through a BLAH day. My dogs did.

I think last time my mom took Garve to the vet, he was the same way!!

It' s the same concept as when humans get immunized. Some vaccines have live attenuated viruses in them and cause mild symptoms and side effects.

Girls thank you SOOOO much for your posts. I am starting to feel better. I couldnt sleep all night bci was so worried about him and kept dreaming about him. You all kow he is the love of my life

I don't have dogs, but my cat was always like that after she got her shots. Don't worry, I am sure he will be fine.

Our dog reacts that way anytime she goes to the vet and has shots, or when she was fixed. And it's so weird, because she's usually like a wound up toy...so it scared me...but it turns out she's just a baby when it comes to being sick (kind of like my FI! )
