Thatched Cottage???
I have been looking at reception halls and am almost positive that I want the Thatched Cottage. Any advice from those who have had a wedding there or considered them would be helpful .. good, bad, whatever! They were one of the more expensive places I looked at but I really loved it so I'm a little torn. Help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Help Please ...
My sister got married there in May '04. I was busy with pics during CH so the only thing I can say was there was a ton of food, but I didn't taste any of it. Dinner was OK.The biggest problem she encountered was the noon fire whistle right smack in the middle of her vows.
If you go with them, make absolutely certain your ceremony does not take place at noon, and if you schedule it for 11:30 (like my sister did) make sure it starts on time.

Re: Help Please ...
Thanks... I didn't even think of that! I was considering having the ceremony there but over the past week I've been thinking maybe I'll have it else where. Definitely don't want to have that loud thing going off during the ceremony!

Re: Thatched Cottage???
I looked there as well....its close to my house, close to my ideal photo spot (Npt village), close to my church.......BUT
when I was there looking at the hall, the fire alarm went off TWICE. (I was there 2 times.) It was very disturbing/disruptive. We went for a tasting (please, no one take offense, this is my personal taste), and the food wasn't very good.
Like you, they were one of the more expensive places on my list. I went with somewhere else.
If you need any help, you can FM me
We must have similar styles. I looked at 14 halls, and have tons of info, even pricing.

Re: Thatched Cottage???
Thanks for the advice ... I am concerned about the noise. Even if I didn't do the ceremony there, the cocktail hour would be outside and I'm sure I wouldn't be all too happy having to listen to that!I really appreciate the input .. I have an appointment sunday for the food tasting and to speak with them again, so this really helps!

Re: Thatched Cottage???
We are not having our ceremony there, and our CH starts at 7:30 pm.We have ben there several times and never heard the fire alarm once. If it is an evening wedding I don't think you'll have a problem...

Re: Thatched Cottage???
I was at a wedding there and there were no fire alarms at all. it's probably just by chance if they go off or not.the food was great at the cocktail hour, and unmemorable for dinner (which is not necessarily bad), and the outdoor setting for the cocktail hour was beautiful.
it thought they threw a nice wedding overall

Re: Thatched Cottage???
I went to a wedding there 2 years ago...it was a beautiful day in August, the perfect setting outside. No fire alarm went off, not sure what time we were there, but it was a daytime wedding. I absolutely loved their salmon in a puff pastry entree, and I'm not a big fish person. Besides for that, I don't remember the food too much. But I love the outside of that place.

Re: Thatched Cottage???
We just booked the Thatched Cottage. We were charged a $595 house fee. Our ceremony is set for 12:00! I have to look into maybe moving it to 12:30 to avoid the noise problem. Our wedding is Sat 3/3/07, I thought we were given a good price of $60.95 a person....
Good luck with whatever place you choose!

Re: Thatched Cottage???
i got married there and i have absolutely no complaints AT ALL!!!
everyone said the food was awesome, that there never needed anything because it was all taken care of. my concerns were the alarm and low tide (being a summer wedding). neither was an issue. we started the ceremony shortly after the noon whistle and they have a tide gate that prevents the water from having that low tide smell. read the reviews from lorsun(sp), robnette, feliciadp and me. good luck!!!

Re: Thatched Cottage???
ok... so I've been doing some searching on the site and there have been a lot of people that have listed their price quote per person and it A LOT less than mine. Does 116 sound right??? We are going tonight and my mom really wants to go for it and sign the contract but I want to know about this first. Thanks guys, you're the best!

Re: Thatched Cottage???
For Friday, 11/23/07 (the night after Thanksgiving), I was quoted $95++. So your $116++ for a Sat sounds normal to me....I think their prices went up a lot for 07. They ARE renovating a lot.
Is there an elevator there? That was one of my concerns. If we chose to book there, our CH would've been downstairs. I have handicapped guests that can't use stairs - I didn't SEE an elevator....that doesn't mean it doesn't exist though.
