Hey Guys (and Gals that Lurk) - An Idea

I know this seems like a 'gal' thing but it is not. It for everybody to think of and can make a difference.

Before I start, I do believe in Karma and that good things happen to those who do good. With that said, I lost my Grandmother and my favorite Aunt (she was 35) to Breast Cancer. Both deaths were a year apart (11 & 10 years ago) I DREAD the mere thought of this horrible disease to ever happening to Nichole or my mother - or any women for that matter. A few months back, I asked Nichole if we could budget a little extra money towards favors. Not the typical favor that most people will throw in a drawer when they get home, but something that will remind them that life is precious.

Nichole and I pretty much decided that to place a pink-rubber bracelet for everybody to wear (if they wish and I hope they do) throughout the reception. I also plan on typing a small note honoring the memory of the 2 people I wish could be there but cannot - although I have no doubt that their spirit will be present.

The above link is a picture of the bracelet. They come in lots of 5 which makes the cost about $1.20 each. Very cheap when you think of how much everything is costing. The $180-200 that the total cost will be, seems like NOTHING when you consider how much the DJ, photographer, videographer charge. We will be giving traditional wedding favors out afterwards but will cut the costs to do this - being a little less extravagant then originally thought. I think all of my guests will understand, especially when they see my 9-year old cousin who is the daughter of my Aunt. Or if they look over at another cousin and find out she is a survivor they will really get it.

If anybody here can find it in their budgets, I truley think is a good idea. If not breast cancer, 'Live Strong' or any other charity that you feel fit - there are countless organizations that could use the funds.

Just a thought.

Re: Hey Guys (and Gals that Lurk) - An Idea

hey, I'm a lurking lady... just wanted to say that I think that's a fantastic idea, and that's what I'm planning for my favors... the usual candy or little engraved thing is just such a waste in my opinion.

But anyway, I just wanted to make this recommendation: have you checked out www.thebreastcancersite.com?

You can buy the pink wristbands there for $1 each, as well as other pink ribbon stuff, and for every purchase you make a percentage goes to fund mammograms for women who wouldn't be able to otherwise afford them.

Even if you don't buy the bracelets there (if, for example the ones your buying go to fund research or something), it's worth checking out if you want to buy other pink ribbon things. And if you're into another cause they are affiliated with several sites for causes: animal rescue, hunger, rainforest, literacy, and I think one more. I'm planning on actually buying a mixture of bracelets from them for my favors instead of just one cause, because they are all fantastic causes.

Anyway, just thought I'd point it out to you if you hadn't already heard of it, I buy a lot of holiday gifts and things from their shops (which sell a lot of non-cause things as fundraisers).
