Question about OOT bags/baskets

What goes in them, and is it a 'must do' type of thing?

I don't think it's a 'must do' at all, but it's a nice touch that has become popular for the guests staying in hotels. We attended a wedding in D.C. last month, arrived to hotel at 11:30 PM, and were delighted to find some candy, cookies, and a small bottle of wine awaiting us! Doesn't have to be expensive, just thoughtful I think.

ETA: Also they had enclosed a short note thanking us for making the trip and looking forward to celebrating tomorrow with us, etc. etc.

Not a 'must-do', but definitely a nice touch.

I'm putting everything I would like to have if I went to a hotel - with as much of a Long Island theme as I can get:

LI wine (with inexpensive wine glasses)
LI Candle Factory candle w/matches
Chocolate
Microwave popcorn
LI potato chips
'The Journey Home' cd

I'll also put in razors and travel soaps, sample perfumes, LI vineyard information and other LI tourism information. Also, I'm including the shuttle bus schedule and the invitation to the day-after breakfast to 'continue the celebration'.
