Gift idea for a new teacher

A friend of mine who is in grad school to become a teacher is getting married this summer. We're going to give them cash, because I know that's what they want and need now, but she's a good friend and I'd like to get something tangible as well. Any teacher themed ideas? TIA

The First Days Of School: How To Be An Effective Teacher by Harry Wong and Rosemary Wong. It's a really good book about how to set up the first 100 days of school. (I'm a second year teacher.)

Re: Gift idea for a new teacher

I agree with the gift to LL weans. Or look in Barnes and Noble or Borders for a book. Maybe even a good alarm clock

I definitely agree about the 100 days of school book by Harry Wong. I'm a first year teacher and it's been super helpful. I also agree about the gift certificates to either LL Weans or Barnes and Noble. Both awesome places where I spend way too much of my hard earned money!

I agree. A close friend also got me a cute apple changeable calendar for my desk (little wood w/ blocks of wood) & another cute WELCOME sign for my desk.....I've had it for 5 years & everytime I look at it I smile (& the kids like it too)

Also Lakeshore certificates are always welcome

Re: Gift idea for a new teacher

Depending on what you want to spend, a soft leather-type briefcase or messenger bag with shoulder strap. Those canvas tote bags get ratty looking real fast, the leather ones last and are so useful for lugging papers home! Sometimes Sears or TJMaxx has them for $30-$50. My daughter loved hers and used it for 3 years. : )

Re: Gift idea for a new teacher

Stephanie -

Not sure how much you can spend, btu here are a few ideas....

* A really great bag for work would be appreciated!

* Take all of the ideas the ladies gave you above, and put together a really cute basket. Include a travel mug, tote bag with her new initials, a GC to a spa or perhaps a mani and pedi...
