Re: ceremony music question / Church rules
Hey there, I'm a musician and I have done tons of gigs at churches playing trumpet. A lot of times I would play with the organist, and if there was a singer they would sing with the organist. You just have to pay those musicians separately. I don't believe there are any rules about who you choose to hire.

Re: ceremony music question / Church rules
My church has no problem with us using our own musicians BUT we still have to pay for theirs even if they don't end up doing anything. So it's not worth it to me to hire someone else.

We have a family friend that will sing one song and their musician will sing the rest. You still have to pay everyone if my church no matter what.

Same here. We had to pay the church and our own musicians. But, it was worth it to me to do it.

Re: ceremony music question / Church rules
I am not using my church's organist or their cantor. I have friends that are musicians that are doing this for me. I called my church's musician to inform them that they don't need to be available for my date. Also, as a singer, I've sung many weddings and it was never a problem. I just coordinated with the organist ahead of time in terms of finding a time to rehearse, etc.One thing you might want to be aware of is that occassionally even if you have another singer, you may have to pay the church's organist or singer (even if you do not use them). this is not always the case, check with your church... but many times, church musicians depend on the income that they get from playing weddings at their church so you may still be responsible for paying them even if you do nto use them. Or more often than not, the money you give as a donation to the church, part of that is given to the church musicians. they appreciate it and it's soo worth it... especially if you can have a friend or family member add to your ceremony.
