Your PRAYERS NEEDED please. . . UPDATE. . .

Hi Ladies. . .

This is the first time on here that I have ever asked that anyone keep someone I know in their thoughts and prayers. . . but they are much needed right now . . . As you may know I am getting married in 37 days. . . one of my bridesmaids is my cousin April who is going to be just about 6 months pregnant on my big day. . . it is her first child and today was her ultrasound. . . she found out that she is pregnant with a baby boy . . . she also found out that he has spina bifida . . . they did more testing to determine the severity and she should get the results on friday . . . her doctors have told her that there are mild forms and severe forms. . . the mild forms can sometimes be corrected with surgery or may even be unnoticable (her husband actually has it and no one knew until he was 12) . . . the severe cases will put them in the position of making the decision to go through with the pregnancy and hope for the best or terminate the pregnancy now. Our family is heartbroken . . . she wanted this so badly. . . waited until she was married a couple of years and owned a house, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, is healthy as a horse, etc. I want to cry for her and wish she lived closer (she's in PA) . . . please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. . .

Well ladies. . . thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers. I just got off the phone with my cousin and I am afraid it is not good news. She and her husband have been told that the baby's spina bifida is of the most severe kind. They can already detect spinal fluid seeping into the baby's skull. They have been given a rather dire prognosis--if he survives full-term they do not believe that he will survive long after birth and in all likelihood will never leave the hospital (apparently if it is this far along at 5 months it will only get worse). My cousin and her husband are being realistic about it . . . they are going for a second opinion later this week at a specialist in Philadelphia. So, I guess we'll see. The saddest part is that they did everything they could prior to and early in the pregnancy to avoid something like this (vitamins, eating healthy, additional testing because of husband) and they were told that everything was great. . . right up until last week. Is it possible her doctor is wrong? . . . I guess. . . but not likely. So, they are preparing for the worst. I know some of you may be against this, and please don't get vocal about it, but they will, most likely unless a miracle occurs, terminate the pregnancy within the next week. Personally she and I are both against abortion for ourselves but feel to each his own. . . I couldn't do it at 20 when my ex tried to convince me to, THANK GOODNESS! But unfortunately we all (including most of our family) feel this is the right decision for all involved. Thank you everyone who listened and cared. It's going to be a difficult few weeks leading up to my wedding. . . please keep April and Brian in your thoughts.

I am so sorry!!! I have a cousin who was born with spina bifida. She had several surgeries after she was born, however, now she can walk with braces. She is a teenager now and lives a fairly normal life. Just stay hopeful! My prayers are with your family!

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. She and your family are in my prayers. My sister just went through a pregnancy scare like that so I know you are going through hell.

OMG how awful. I hate hearing things like this that involve babies and children. I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
