Did you/will you register for REAL SILVER silverware? Did people buy it off your registry?
I love the idea of real silver silverware as opposed to stainless steel or silver-plated, etc., but it's so expensive per place setting.Do people really buy this off the registry?
The real silver that 'matches' our china pattern costs over $200 per place setting. Isn't that nuts?
Or is it par for the registry course?

I didn't order real silver because I can't see myself polishing it.

That's funny....actually, I read in one of those registry guides that you should use your real silver every day.........that way you'll never have to polish it and it looks 'better' with use.

Yes, and yes.I inherited my mother's but needed to add setting and I did get two sets. I have to buy the remaining though.
It doesn't hurt but I am so glad I didn't need to register for fancy plates because I inherited those as well! That way, I got so much more in terms of everyday things.

We didn't register for silver because of the same concern. Our china is already expensive and we have other high ticket items like sets of crystal, etc. so I thought it was just too much to ask. We registered for fine silverware (which is still relatively costly per place setting) to go with our china and then every day flatware, but both are stainless.
I'm hoping my mom will someday give me her real silver!

I actually don't think I saw any when I went to register and I thought it was weird.

Re: Did you/will you register for REAL SILVER silverware? Did people buy it off your registry?
I didn't register for REAL SILVER.1- becuase I thought it wasn't necessary b/c sometimes your silverwear gets thrown out when company comes over and they 'try' to help clean up really when they are only in the way. and I would die if my setting got thrown away if was over $200
2- because I really didn't like any of the patterns... JMO I found them to be really old fashion.
3- they always need to be polished and I just don't like don't any extra steps of cleaning...
If you like the pattern then register for it... but I wouldn't expect a lot of them for over $200.00 a setting... I would rather buy a place setting or something for that price before buying silvewear. YIKES!
Good Luck!

I want real silver, but have no practical use for it at this point in my life, and would much rather have my dyson purchased off my registry than silver.BUT- someday I hope to own a full set.

Silver requires maintenance which I knew I would never do. I registered for stainless..happy with our decision.

Re: Did you/will you register for REAL SILVER silverware? Did people buy it off your registry?
We didn't but thats because I inherited my moms...if we hadn't I don't think we would have registered for it -1. Too expensive - need more important things before silver silverware
2. not partical for us...if we had a house then I would say yes...but living in an apartment means limited space...can't have it sitting around...waiting for me to polish it...JMO

Re: Did you/will you register for REAL SILVER silverware? Did people buy it off your registry?
My grandma offered me her china, so instead of registering for china I just registered for good silverware. However, if I were attending another brides' shower I wouldn't buy silverware alone. I think silverware is more of a group gift since it's so expensive.
