Getting Pregnant After Taking the Pill

Hi All,

I have been on the Pill for almost 12 years. My Dr. told me that I should be off of the Pill for at least 6 months before trying to conceive.

Anyone else hear about this? I also read on the internet that you should wait 3 months, maybe my doctor is just being cautious?

Just curious.

I have been on the pill for many years as well. My doctor told us that in no way will my being on the pill interfere with my ability to conceive. He did not tell us to wait 6 months but rather to wait until my first natural period after stopping the pill and start relations on day 10 (and every other day thereafter) of my cycle.

BTW - I wouldnt use the internet as a primary source of information in this area. There are so many conflicting opinions and articles on websites - so many that I figured that speaking directly to a medical professional was the best route for myself. There may be a reason why your doctor told you what he did. Every woman is different

I just wanted to say both times I got pregnant one month after going off the pill and so far both of my boys have been fine :)

i just asked my doctor about this this week actually. She told me that you can just finish the pill and start trying, but that the probability of becoming pregnant is slim until about 3 mths after being off the pill. She didn't say there were any risks as far as being on the pill. She actually told me that being on the pill can help prevent certain types of cancer!

I think my doctor was concerned because I have been on the pill for so long, that she said I needed to build up my uterus.

I don't mind waiting, I was just curious to see if anyone else's doctors gave them the same advice.

Do not worry! It is better to be off the pill 'for a while' to clean up your system but that takes a while. That's why it takes some people 1 year to get pregrant.

They are plenty of babiesborn on this planet while their mommy was still on the pill and they are just as healthy (although not advised!).

i definitely think it is a good idea to wait to let your body adjust to being off the pill. My doctor told me start taking prenatal vitamins and wait atleast 3 months/3 periods. Good luck!

It took me 7 months with my 1st and 6 months with my 2nd to get pg. after the pill.

My best friend just went off and her doctor told her the same thing. If you've been on a really long time, they suggest waiting at least 3 months so that you can build up the uterus wall!

My doctor told me the same thing
