Another marriage license/name change question

When I change my name - do I have to give all those places my official license, or just show it to them?

So - do I need to give them (SS, DMV, etc) my official license to keep, so I have to get official copies from the town hall, or do I just bring one with me to show them and then get to take my license home?

Re: Another marriage license/name change question

Go to the SS office - they will need an ORIGINAL marriage certificate (they don't keep it)

DMV requires the same as the SS Office.

Banks will require your new license/state issued ID and the ORIGINAL marriage certificate (they don't keep it)

CC's you can call over the phone and do it (or even online)

Utility Bills will require a copy of your new SS/new Driver's license.

Re: Another marriage license/name change question

Also, I would get an extra copy of your marriage certificate anyway, and keep it in a safety deposit box.

Thats a good idea - I think official copies are only 5 dollars, right?

Re: Another marriage license/name change question

I just went to SS and the DMV today and they just look at the license (drivers and marriage) and give it right back to you.
