NWR....How can people be soooo moody ALL the time???

I mean don't get me wrong I'm human and go thru mood swings especially during the time of the month BUT how can the same person be in a bad mood ALL the time??

Ugh, I just want to tell this person to lighten up already...Jeeeeeeeeeeeez!!!!!!!!!

Life is too short to walk around miserable 24/7.

let me guess... is this a coworker? I have a few of those here, too. I don't get it either.

The best is when you can walk right by them and say 'Hi' to them, and they can't even muster up a 'hello' back. I give up!

I know what you mean. I had an acquaintance that I cut loose because he was always trying to bring everyone down.

Life is too short not to enjoy it. I feel pity for people like that.

We all have these people in our lives unfortunately. My theory is that miserable people act that way because they feel it's the only way they can get any sort of attention in their lives. And it's true what they say...misery loves company so they'll latch onto you when you are having a bad day and just assume you are miserable...like them! I just smile at the miserable people in my life and they tend to leave me alone.

I stopped talking to that person except when it was work related. She is a very miserable person with a miserable life. She is very lonely and has maybe one or two friends. I feel sorry for her but I still don't bother.

All I can say to this is ALLELIUAH! I'm not the only one who goes through this!! I have cut friendships because of this..and recently told a co-worker she was really depressing and I could no longer be around her if she continued. Well thank god she is no longer here..and I feel so RELIEVED!!! She's a sweet person..but MY GOD...so miserable..

wow-- maybe she has emotional issues-- but i see it a lot, i don't get it either-- some people are really just miserable. it's sad but can be really annoying to other people-- me being one of them! b/c i just don't understand why they can't be happy-- i mean, unless something really serious is going on in their life-- but the ones who are like that ALL of the time, it's like, what's the problem?!

Come to think of it, I had a high school friend like that. I was depressed for a time in my life and after a while had had enough of feeling sorry for myself. So I made a list of what I didn't like about my life, formed a plan to change each piece, and made it better. The friend asked me to 'coach' her on how to do it but in the end, I think she just really WANTED to be miserable. Like you said, to get attention.

I read a book a few years ago called the Celestine Prophecy that said people will try to 'steal your energy' (gain attention, suck the life out of you basically) in some predictable ways, or a combination of ways:

'Poor Me' - the miserable ones who always complain and think life is dismal.

'Intimidators' - the aggressive ones who get high on making other people submissive, below them

'Interrogators' - the ones who ask you a loaded question specifically so they can attack your answers

'Aloof' - people who act like they are hiding something, or who don't care about anyone so others will try to find out more about them

It's interesting if you think of your coworkers that way. Once you know what they want, you can figure out if you want to give it to them or not.

Could not have said it better myself

I do not understand some people. I actually got into it with one of my coworkers 2 days ago who was upset all the time (became a good friend of mine). He was so moody and so I asked him what his problem was and he said 'you have no idea how bad my life is'. So at first I was concerned and asked him what was the matter. He then said he has no money after he pays his bills (to which I answered him, about 75% of the people are usually broke after paying their bills so get over it, unfortunately that is the way it is - LI is expensive), he had a child so young (I told him to be very happy he has a beautiful, healthy little girl and never regret that), he helps his father raise his brother (I told him that some people do not have a family, so the fact that he has one and is close with them, he should count his blessings), and he does not like his job (I told him to get a new one). After I yelled at him, he kind of realized that his life really was not bad, and he said Thank You. Some people really are so moody all the time, but some people really do think they have it hard and just need to realize it could be worse! Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. My grandfather always said this and I live by it, 'enjoy life now because this is not a rehearsal, you only get one time around'.
