rp: day-of coordination referals, please

hello ladies,

i will be getting married a little out of the area come october. i thought i had a day-of wedding coordinator. i found her on craigslist.org. she is new in the business and was going to work for free, for the sake of building up her portfolio. i was planning to give her a decent tip if all went well.

... well, the young lady is no-where to be found. the closer the day is the more i realize that i will need day day-of coordination. i was thinking of asking a friend to do it, but then realized that i want her to be a guest, not an 'employee' on my wedding day.

my question/request from you is... can anyone recommend a coordinator for my wedding day. this would have to be someone who can travel a little bit. i'm getting married in princeton, nj.

Hello and congratulations!

I know I'm not a coordinator but I thought I could offer some insights here. Free is not always good as you have found out, sometimes in the crunch couples have to cut corners but they don't realize what was on that part of the table.

With a DOC you are paying for their eye, which is developed over time. You are paying for them to be like Norton Antivirus or WD40 on your wedding day. Knowing how things fit together and seeing if something will or won't work, and how to fix it quickly and quietly, knowing what the next thing that will happen is and having all the pieces ready to go with out looking for having to go looking for any of them. It's like the commercial that says 'the best technology is the technology that you don't even know is there. You turn on the switch the lights come on.' That's what a good DOC does for you.

As you can tell I'm a big fan of the DOC.
