MOB/MOG Dresses

Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you have a favorite shop for MOG dresses in Bensonhurst/Bay Ridge Brooklyn? My favorite place Barbie's on 86th Street went out of business last year and I need a dress for my son's wedding. So if any of you have a good shop in the vicinity of 18th Avenue & 86th Street or in Bay Ridge please let me know.

Thanks, Liz

Re: MOB/MOG Dresses

I also recm'd going to Valentina's on New Utrecht.

My mom purchased her dress at Cache in the Staten Island Mall. I would also recm'd going to Charmet in Bay Ridge, there are about four/five other stores right by it - all on 5th Avenue, starting at 85th Street, going down towards 82nd Street.

I bought my Sweet 16 dress from a place called 'Christine B' which is in the Kings Plaza Mall, but in all honesty, I don't know if they're still open.

You can also try the B'hurst area, where you used to go for Barbie's, and try 'Effies' - they ahve a huge selection, and there are also three other stores that sell dresses right by it - 86th Street, between 20th to Bay Parkway.

Re: MOB/MOG Dresses

My votes go to Valentina's which a few girls have already mentioned and Effie's on 86th Street. There's also another store that has some beautiful dresses in their window and my mom is thinking of going there as well but the only thing is I don't remember the name of it - it's on 18th Avenue and I believe 72nd Street (it's the block right after Villabate Bakery). Hope this helps

Good Luck

I didn't think maid to order had MOB/MOG dresses too. I thought they were just bridesmaids. That's really close.

I know the store you are thinking of, but can't remember the name too. I'll have to check that out and while I'm there go into Villabate and get some pastries and cookies mmmGood. I'm not sure about Doris because I remember they used to just have old farty gowns hopefully they changed.

Is Effies still there? I'm going to have to check.
Charmet in Bay Ridge closed, I was there this past weekend.

I think the one you are talking about is Dana zi or something like that. It is right next to Lenny's Pizza....they alway do have some nice dresses in their window, but sometimes they are too European styled. You have to look carefully in there.

Re: MOB/MOG Dresses

I went to a store near Valentina's yesterday and stopped in out of curiousity and they do have beautiful gowns. I asked the owner when I should make my appointment and he was very nice and told me to wait until January when all the new styles come out, but then I just had to look since I was there and found that everything I liked was really pricey....I mean the ones I looked at ranged in price from $1500.-2000. That is a lot for a MOG gown. Hopefully when I go back they will have some gowns for less.

Re: MOB/MOG Dresses

Hi Nina's FMIL! Nina is wonderful! you're very lucky!

If you want to take a little drive east of Brooklyn out to the Island, i highly recommend Estelle's dressy dresses. my mom foudn her's for.... $150!!! we couldn't believe it was so cheap... we kept looking at the price tag!!! and she looks FABULOUS IN IT!!!!

but seriously they have nice things.... and we didnt' see anything for over $600. they are on the cheaper side cost-wise, but they dont' look cheap! the only thing is that they have a store credit only refund policy, so you have to be fairly sure you want it... but with the money you can save, you could get an amazing handbag or shoes... they have accessories in every possible color so you'll be sure to find something to match. we got it all there!
good luck!

Re: MOB/MOG Dresses

They're on Rt. 110.... take the Belt to the Southern State to Rt. 110 NORTH and it'll be on your left hand side. i would save a 40 minute drive from bay ridge no traffic.
