NWR: My dog UPDATE
We were sleeping and I felt her shaking..and when I woke up and turned on the light I saw her shaking and then she laid on her side and got stiff. Her tongue was hanging to the side and I thought she was choking, but then realized she was having a seizure. My dog is only 5 years old and I am so scared now. We are going to take her to the vet..but is this common? I have a yorkie

I don't know if this is common, but I would definately ask the vet. I wonder, can dogs have seizures from the heat like kids can have them from having a high temperature?? Ask your vet I hope your doggie will be okay

My dog used to have seizures. The vet put her on some anti seizure medication but the medicine made her paranoid and she was NOT herself. So we took her off the medication. She had seizures maybe once a year. She would be VERY scared and we would just hold her and talk to her until she was calm. Good Luck

Yeah I held her too..but I got scared because I thought she was choking..so I laid her down. It ***** that they have to go through these things...especially when they are so tiny.

FH's grandma had a Yorkie. It had what they thought was a seizure once and then a stroke at the end which left her paralyzed on one side so they put her down.

I had a husky that had epilepsy (sp) and he has siezures his whole life, usually about once a week. He would shake and cry until someone would pet him,. We took turn petting him until the seizure ended, usually lasted a few minutes. He lived to be 19......good luck with your dog...the vet should be able to help

this is what I did last night...until it was over. Then she became very playful. FH is home now so the verdict should be in shortly.

Re: NWR: My dog UPDATE
Well she went to the vet..and they drew blood. We'll know in a few days. It could be anything from epilepsy to low blood sugar. Hopefully it's nothing.....but my god..all for the low price of $254.00. We didn't need this extra expense right now.

I was shocked at how much it was!! She is totally worth it..but the vet made mention of it being a neurological disorder or a tumor...then said it's highly unlikely...so why mention it????

Re: NWR: My dog UPDATE
This happened to my FH's yorkie a year and a half ago. He suffered seizures every hour, became disoriented, peed all over the place b/c he couldn't hold it, cried when he walked into a corner and could dig himself out of it. After 2 days of this, FH and his family decided to put the dog to sleep. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I know FH and his family could no longer take seeing their family member suffer. He was 10-11 years old though.

Oh wow. So far..this was the first time she's ever had one. Hopefully it was due to low blood sugar. They gave her some meds for that. HOwever, if I see that it gets worse (like you describe) I would put her down also..because it's not fair to her. As much as I love and would want her with me...I'd let her go. It's not that serious..yet. Thank god.

Re: NWR: My dog UPDATE
please keep us posted -I have a yorkie mix and he currently has allergies -it's hard -I got pet insurance after his allegries started and they had preexisting condistions so his medicine is not covered but I am still glad I got it.there is nothing I wouldn't do for my little baby

Re: NWR: My dog UPDATE
My cat had seizures, and they never really knew the cause of them... they said they could do tests like cat scans, but I didn't see the point of that. They gave her medication, which helped, but she died about 6 months later... i know this also something you might not want to hear, but she was 15. I think she probably had a brain tumor or something like that. They said that seizures are more common in dogs though. How old is the dog? they said that if an animal has epilepsy it would manifest itself when it is very young.
