Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on where you are going - if you are going to major cities like Rome, I wore my sneakers because we did a lot of walking. When we went to the Almafi Coast and Capri I wore my flip-flops because I knew we would just be lounging on the beach.

ok, we are going to venice and rome, so i guess yes there will be alot of walking, i just know i probably will be wearing alot of long skirts and i hate the way sneakers would look, but i guess comfort comes first

Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just something to think about...if you wear sneakers in Italy everyone will immediately know that you're a tourist. It's weird you walk into a store and before you say anything they start speaking English to you. Personally, I didn't care about this when I went, but if you're looking to fit in then I'd find a nice pair of flats.

shopping in venice and padua is awesome - buy a pair when you get there because you will immediately be jealous of everyone's shoes!

Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wore sneakers most places, if you are doing alot of walking I would strongly suggest you do that same. Depending on where you are going, there are hills and uneven pavement (especially in the older cities).

Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would bring a pair of sneakers - but you may also want to buy a pair of comfortable flats - if you're planning on wearing skirts - I hear you on the whole sneakers & skirt thing...

Here is a cute pair from Victoria's Secret...and here is a link for a bunch of flats...

Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would invest in a cute pair of flats if you are worried about comfort

btw- some streets are cobblestone. . .i got my heels stuck in between then a billion times - it doesnt look sexy

also remember if you plan on visiting churches and the Vatican - you need to have your knees and shoulders covered ( and everything in between, not JUST your knees and shoulders )

Re: Anyone who has been to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok i spoke with him and he said he thinks that maybe they have eased up a bit on the rules but that he still thinks you are not allowed to wear shorts in the vatican-- but if i were you i would try to wear sneaks as much as possible b/c it's a lot of walking! they have really cute sneaks now so you won't look frumpy HTH
