Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

My FH is, for whatever reason, getting upset that it's not going to be just the two of us. He wants something to be just us, which I don't get because he has NO interest in planning this wedding and my parents have been doing everything with me. All of a sudden he's on this 'just us' kick since my parents went with us to pick out the tuxedos (p.s. - his sister went, too - and she obviously didn't need a tux... my dad did). My mom (and dad) have gone with me to almost EVERYTHING (more than my FH), so I don't know why he's having an issue with them being involved in our wedding planning now, especially when they're paying for the majority of the wedding! (which he HATES me bringing up!)

eta: his mom lives in FL, so she can't go.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

i'm having my parents, me and fh and my FIL's at our tasting-- since we are all paying for it i feel it is fair to have them and get their input on the food. i also want their help to suggest what their guests will want to have at the CH, choices, etc. b/c i have NO clue! lol all i eat is cereal, what do i know? it's kinda cute that he wants it to be just you two but i would say although it's really sweet of him-- you think it would be nice to include them so they don't feel left out on something that most parents are included in.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

Yes my parents went with me and my dad was very involved. He said that since he is paying for it, he wants to know what he will be eating.
But then since my hall is also a restaurant, FH took us all out to dinner there afterwards to thank my parents for paying for our wedding.

yes, but my FMIL lives in FL and she is literally flying back to FL the day (that exact TIME) we're going. Our menu planning was supposed to be Sept. 10th, but that's the day we're celebrating my parent's 40th wedding anniversary, so we can't do it that day. The Crescent asked if we could do this Saturday then, instead. My parents also have to hand over a $9,000 check to them, so I really think it is only right that they're there when we do the menu. And it's not like they're dictating to us what we MUST have... they're not like that, so I don't understand his beef. It's just him being stubborn for NO reason.

Re: Did your parents go with you to your menu planning/food tasting?

Tell him that you want your parents to be involved as they are paying for it and you feel its right that they come.
Maybe he just feels uncomfotable. Are they close?

yes, which is why I don't get it. I think he's standing on this principle - for some reason. He feels my parents are too involved in everything in my life, which they are, but oh well! And in this case... they're paying!!

Not the menu planning, but the food tasting I wanted my parents there (and the IL's too) for a free meal and to get their input. Especially my parents, because they paid for the wedding.

exactly... it's almost more for the free meal part (even though they're only giving us the hors d'oeurves, but they're YUMMY!)

Exactly! They are paying.they should go if they want to. I don't this is something he should be upset over. My parents are way involved in my life too but I like it that way! I love my parents and without them, there would be no wedding! If they wanna pick out some food, so be it!

I agree. It aggravates the heck out of me that this would even be an issue. I asked him if it would be okay, and he's like, 'well obviously you made the decision already, so why ask me?'. so annoying! Meanwhile, he gets along so well with my parents - and they treat us so well - so why make an issue out of this? I feel like he's a bit jealous of how well they treat us because we don't get that from his side, plus his father's no longer with us so that's kind of hard, too. But don't take it out on my parents! I would never tell my parents how he is with this stuff. I just told my dad about going Saturday, and my dad's like, 'Free Hoy Doyvs? Cool!' He's so cute! What am I gonna say? Give me a check for $9,000 - Joe and I are going for free grub and you're not invited???

I had me, my FH, my parents and my FMIL at the tasting. When we went for the final menu planning it was just me and FH because everyone else was at the tasting. I thought it was helpful to have everyone's opinions at the tasting. It made the decision making easier.
